Reginald solemnly reminded her, “I take this project very
seriously, so I will personally supervise you.”
This left Adelaide speechless.
Who asked him to help her solve such a big problem as soon as
he started?
“Okay, I got it.”
Adelaide walked out of the office, and Mara came over to her
desk again.
“Ms. Pierce, didn’t the boss give you a day off?”
Adelaide only thought about it when she was asked like that.
But she wasn’t really planning to ask for time off, she wouldn’t
go to the Pierce’s place.
So she tactfully made up an excuse to dodge the past.
“I called and said I couldn’t help, they told me not to come back
and cause trouble. Besides, it’s only a few hours before the end
of the workday, so there’s no need to take another day off.”
When Mara heard her say that, she couldn’t help but show a

look of sympathy.
She didn’t say anything, just reassured: “Hmm, everything will
be fine.”
Adelaide didn’t care what Mara thought, she only had one thing
on her mind now.
Tonight Garrett is coming back to Evercrest, there’s still about
ten days left until the cooling–off period ends, she can’t guess
what he’ll do.
After work she needed to meet up with Cornelius.
As soon as it was time to get off work, Adelaide hurriedly left.
She arrived at a quiet tea house and met Cornelius, who had
been waiting in the private room.
“Sir Barnard, you’ve been waiting for a long time.”
“I haven’t been here long either, have a seat,” Cornelius said
kindly, raising his hand.
“Thanks Sir Barnard,” Adelaide sat down, and Cornelius poured
tea for her.
Adelaide was surprised: “Sir Barnard, I can do it myself.”
“There’s no one else here, no need to be so formal.” After
Cornelius poured her tea, he spoke first: “You called me to say
that jerk was coming back tonight, so I had his brother check on
him. Turns out it’s true.”
Adelaide took a sip of tea.
“Sir Barnard, things have come to this point, actually I just want
to handle it quietly, don’t want to stir up trouble anymore. So
after thinking it over, I think it’s better to contact you
proactively.”
“Yeah, no problem.” Cornelius felt regret towards Adelaide and
was furious with his own troublesome son. “You can trust me, I
promise you, once the cooling–off period is over, I will
personally take him to the courthouse.”
After all, there was no way to turn things around.
The news was out, the invitations were sent, and even the
wedding venue was booked.
