Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 192

It was as if all the strength had been drained from her body. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed heavily onto the sofa with a dull thud, eyes wide with shock and disbelief.

“You… how did you… That’s impossible! I—I made sure you were—”

She wanted to say “locked up,” but the words stuck in her throat, dissolving into meaningless, panicked gasps.

“Evidence?”

Gwyneth loomed over her, voice eerily calm yet carrying a weight that pressed down on the whole room.

“Is this enough?”

Elodie set down her teacup, flashing a cheerful, almost mischievous smile as she twisted the knife, “We’ve got hallway footage, audio recordings, bank transfers—nothing’s missing. Now then, care to explain how Mr. Boyd fell into such an obvious trap?”

“I—I’ll talk!” The waitress finally broke, clutching her head in her hands, her voice trembling on the verge of tears.

“It was Desiree! Ms. Sutton paid me a lot of money to do it! She told me to lock you up and then lure Mr. Boyd to that room…”

Gwyneth’s pupils contracted sharply.

“Don’t waste my time with things I already know!”

She cut her off, voice rising, taking a menacing step closer. The force of her presence made the waitress shrink back in terror.

“Bennett! How did you trick him? What did you tell him?!”

This was the point that mattered most to Gwyneth, the one thing she couldn’t wrap her head around.

Terrified into total honesty, the waitress blurted it all out in a rush.

“I—I told Mr. Boyd… I said—Ms. Fletcher, I told him you had an emergency, that something had gone wrong. I said you were waiting for him in the penthouse suite and needed him right away… He looked worried and didn’t hesitate for a second—just told me to take him to you… I led him to the door. The sedative in the room had already been burning for a while, it was thick in the air. The moment he stepped inside, he—”

As she listened, Gwyneth’s face darkened, her heart twisting painfully in her chest like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand.

So that was it?

Bennett fell for it because he was worried about her?

Because he thought she was in trouble, he’d let his guard down and walked straight into a trap tailor-made for him?

The realization struck Gwyneth like a bolt of lightning, shattering her carefully maintained composure and self-control.

She’d considered every possible scenario.

Maybe Bennett had been careless.

Maybe Desiree had used some more secretive trick.

But she’d never imagined—it was all because of her.

Gwyneth watched, expressionless, as the officers restrained the woman, her voice icy and unfeeling.

“I only asked if the evidence was enough. I never promised not to call the police.”

The waitress’s desperate shouts faded as the door closed behind her.

Silence returned to the living room, broken only by the sound of Elodie stifling her laughter and Gwyneth’s slightly rapid breathing.

“Tsk, tsk. Love really does make fools of us all…” Elodie sidled up, still teasing. “Gwyneth, you’re a real high-value asset now—just look, you single-handedly knocked down Mr. Boyd’s IQ.”

“Elodie!” Gwyneth snapped, half embarrassed and half annoyed, making as if to smack her.

Elodie skipped out of reach, grinning. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop. Leave the clean-up to me. You should hurry back and check on our lovestruck Mr. Boyd. The sedative probably hasn’t worn off yet—he could use some… care right about now.”

She drew out the word “care” with a sly wink.

Gwyneth rolled her eyes, ignoring her, grabbed her bag, and strode out the door, moving even faster than she had when she’d arrived.

She slid into her car. Outside, neon lights blurred past the windows, throwing shifting colors across her distracted face.

The waitress’s confession and Elodie’s relentless teasing echoed in her mind, refusing to fade.

Could he have done it on purpose?
