Chapter 159
Andrew couldn’t forget his promise to stand up for Lydia. But Emily was hardly ever home, and with all the chaos at the Bennett Group after what happened with Bob, he’d been too busy to deal with it-so things kept getting pushed back.
Now that he finally had a moment to spare, he didn’t have to bottle up his anger anymore. He tracked down where Emily was and headed straight over.
But he never expected to find out that Emily was secretly living with Austin behind the family’s back-and even in such a shabby, rundown place.
Andrew’s face darkened, and his usual calm demeanor was almost swallowed up by disappointment and anger. When he saw Emily walking out of the supermarket with Austin, laughing and chatting, her arms full of groceries, his anger hit the roof.
Andrew jumped out of his car recklessly, nearly causing the car behind him to slam into his door. He ignored the angry shouts from the other driver, stormed over, grabbed Emily by the wrist, and snapped, “Come back with me.”
Andrew appeared so suddenly and grabbed her so forcefully that Emily’s groceries went tumbling to the ground.
The eggs she’d just bought splattered all over the ground, leaving a sticky mess.
Emily’s expression turned icy. She stumbled back a couple of steps to steady herself, then yanked her hand free from Andrew’s grip. She asked, “Is there something you need, Mr. Bennett?”
Her cold, distant attitude was like pouring oil on Andrew’s burning anger. He snapped, “Emily, how long are you going to keep up this nonsense?”
Andrew had been raised as the heir to the Bennett Family since he was a child, and he rarely let his emotions slip-let alone lose control like this in public.
Emily just found him completely baffling. She’d been so busy investigating what happened to Bob that she’d barely even gone back to Bennett residence. She thought, ‘What nonsense is he even talking about?’
Just as Emily was about to say something, Austin stepped forward and said, “Hey, man, looking at the situation here, aren’t you the one making a scene?”
He moved to stand right in front of Emily, giving Andrew a once-over. Then he said, “You just show up and start grabbing Emily like that-what, are you some kind of human trafficker or something?”
Andrew’s face grew even darker, his icy stare sweeping over Austin-the pressure in the air was almost suffocating.
After years as the CEO of the Bennett Group, Andrew was used to having an intimidating aura. Most people would crack under a look like that.
But Austin acted like he didn’t feel a thing. He looked down at the smashed eggs on the ground with real regret and said, “These are organic eggs, you know.
“Emily worked her butt off to earn the money for them. Don’t you think you should pay up?” He stuck his hand out to Andrew, totally matter-of-fact. Then he added, “The eggs are all broken, so we’ll have to buy a new dozen.
“And don’t forget-you owe us for the trouble, too.”
There was something about Austin’s street-smart act-on that sunny, boyish face of his-that didn’t come off as annoying at all. Instead, it actually made him seem kind of sincere.
That sincerity, for some reason, reminded Andrew of the Emily he remembered from the past. His heart gave a sudden jolt.
