Chapter 212
Chapter 212
But right now, Emily was just way too exhausted to even think about dealing with the Bennett Family
Emily hadn’t slept a wink for four days, bet nerves stretched to the breaking point. Now that the could finally let her guard down, a wee of bone deep exhaustion crashed over her like never before.
As soon as Emily stepped into the apartment, she didn’t even have the strength to close the door behind her and stumbled straight to her room, collapsing onto the bed.
Austin followed behind her, watching as, even though she was dead tired, Emily still instinctively tiptoed around, trying to make herself invisible
When she finally collapsed onto the bed and curled up into a ball, he couldn’t help but feel a pang in his chest. He knew all too well what that meant.
Austin had spent the last twenty some years living the exact same way. Watching Emily was like staring at his reflection
Austin tiptoed into the room, wanting to cover Emily with a blanket. But then he saw her hands clasped over her chest, pripping a pair of scissors
Austin knew she kept a pair of scissors under her pillow, and he’d always thought it was just for everyday convenience
But upon realizing this now, a pang shot through Austin’s chest, and his gaze grew even deeper.
Austin picked up a blanket from nearby and gently laid it over Emily.
But the moment the blanket touched her, Emily, who looked the she was already out cold, suddenly snapped her eyes open.
Her gaze was still hary with sleep, but her hand, still clutching the scissors, shot up on instinct
Good thing Austin was quick, and he caught her wrist just in time.
A bright, sunny smile bloomed on his face, his dimples gentle and reassuring as he said softly, “Go to sleep. I’m here for you.”
Emily gazed at him for a while, her eyes still dared with sleep, but eventually, she slowly let her eyes fall shut and slipped back to sleep.
Only then did Austin gently lower her hand, step out of the room, and quietly close the door behind him.
The moment the door closed, that warm, easygoing look on his face vanished, replaced by an icy chill and a murderous glint in his eyes.
Once he decided to stay, Austin didn’t leave the apartment at all, except for occasionally stopping out onto the balcony to take a call, No matter what he was doing, he made sure to keep things quiet
She stayed in bed for a while, waiting for the stiffness in her limbs to fade before finally stretching and getting up.
