Chapter 234
Emily
had no idea what had happened after the left.
She had just gone to a comer to make a call and overheard the conversation between Yvonne and Jeremy. When she came back, she saw Austin waiting
for her nearby
Austin had already spotted her, and instead of waiting for Emily to walk over, he jogged over to her. They didn’t say a word. His nod said it all, and Emily caught on instantly.
White she was on the call, Austin was also busy. After all, they were prepping for a big show.
They exchanged information smoothly, then stood by a nearby table. This spot gave them a clear view of the whole hotel lobby and let Yvonne’s people keep an eye on them, too.
The wait felt endless. Austin picked several desserts and gave them to Emily, but didn’t touch any himself.
Emily noticed this, but she was used to it. Living with Austin for so long, she knew how picky he was about what he ate
He wasn’t picky about flavors, but he absolutely refused to eat anything not personally prepared by him, as if guarding against some hidden threat. Emily noticed it, but she neither pressed for answers nor intervened. She quietly ate her dessert, waiting for the right moment.
Perhaps sensing the heavy y silence, Austin started a conversation by bringing up Lydia. “When you followed Yvonne out earlier, Lydia came to talk to me.” Emily stopped chewing for a moment, memories of Lydia’s earlier words flashing through her mind. She turned to Austin, swallowed, and asked, “What did she want from you?”
Rather than letting Lydia’s words affect her, she decided it was better to ask Austin directly. After all, she had promised to trust him.
Austin had no idea that Lydia had gone to stir up trouble in front of Emily. Hearing Emily ask out of concern for him, he thought she was genuinely caring for him, so he happily told her everything in detail.
“She was being all clingy and wouldn’t back off. I was afraid she might do something crazy, so I made a quick escape.” Austin clutched his chest and grinned. “Don’t you think I did a great job?”
He recounted everything with a playful tone, leaving Emily standing in surprise. She believed in Austin, even when Lydia tried to drive a wedge between
them.
However, she had to admit that Lydia’s words had affected her, which was why she was curious enough to ask what Lydia told him.
She paused and asked again, “Why did she come to you?”
Emily knew Lydia’s tricks all too well, and that was exactly how she gradually won over the Bennett family. She didn’t understand why Lydia was after
Austin now.
Austin had wondered about it, too. He wasn’t sure why exactly, but figured it had something to do with Emily He had looked into Lydia and found she had grabbed everything that belonged to Emily, so it made sense she would come after him.
Austin shared his suspicions and then, as if struck by another thought, whispered, “I just feel like something is off about Lydia. You have to be careful.” “Do you feel the same way?” Emily looked at hind in surprise. “What exactly do you find wrong?”
Hearing that, Austin knew she was wary, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on what exactly felt wrong
After thinking for a while, he said, “When Yvonne embarrassed us in front of everyone, I noticed Lydia’s expression. She was definitely the one who Marled it
“I get that Yvonne fell for it so quickly, but almost everyone else there seemed totally taken in by her. That’s too weird. I keep getting this creepy vibe from her, like she’s able to twist people’s minds.”
Emily shuddered, as if she had just been hit with a sudden revelation. She thought, ‘Yes, it’s like mind control. Those around Lydia seemed puppets under her sway. Is there really someone in the world who has that kind of power?
Austin weren’t affected at
pat nervously. “Lydia does seem like she can control minds, forcing people to think what she wants.”
