Chapter 237
What was supposed to be a successful benefit dinner turned into a full-blown scandal at the worst possible moment. And as the host, the Windrose family ended up even more humiliated than the Zwick family.
Jeremy’s parents, Toby and Suzy, were veterans in the business world for decades, but they had never been that humiliated. They slipped out before the cops even showed up, not wanting to get ambushed by the press.
Before leaving, Toby shot his son Jeremy a furious glare. “Is this what you promised that the Zwick family would pull off a flawless benefit dinner? You must fix this mess yourself. Otherwise…”
Toby didn’t bother to finish, just gave a snort and hurried out, leaving Jeremy’s already forced smile even more strained.
Jeremy had been the one to push hard for letting the Zwick family handle the benefit dinner. Toby had his reservations, but thanks to Jeremy’s track record, he just kept quiet. But no one could guess they would land him in such a huge mess.
Just then, Walter, looking desperate, rushed over to Jeremy for help. He seized Jeremy’s hand. “Mr. Windrose, you have to help us. Only you can get the Zwick family out of this mess.”
Because of Walter’s frantic move, a lot of people nearby turned to look, and all sorts of complicated, unreadable stares landed on Jeremy.
Jeremy, already fuming, finally lost it. He yanked his hand away. “Help you? Mr. Zwick, let me remind you. We signed a contract with you when we entrusted this benefit dinner to you.
“Your family’s scandal has brought so much trouble to us, and you still have the nerve to come begging me for help?”
If it weren’t for all these people watching, Jeremy would’ve loved nothing more than to kick this good-for-nothing fool right then and there.
Walter hadn’t expected Jeremy to be so direct and ruthless, and he realized Jeremy was on purpose, making sure everyone could hear, and just so he could pin all the blame on the Zwick family.
He’d always known Jeremy only looked like a gentleman. Deep down, he was the most ruthless. That’s why he made sure to cover his ass and keep a backup plan. He thought that was hands down the smartest thing he had ever done.
Walter stepped closer and spoke through gritted teeth, his voice low. “Mr. Windrose, you have no choice. You must help me with this.” The threat in his voice was obvious.
