Chapter 239

The day the verdict came down, the Zwick family filed an appeal. Emily wasn’t surprised at all by that. The wait for the second trial was long, and Yvonne was transferred to another detention facility.

Once everything was in place and visitation was allowed, Emily was the first one to show up. She wanted to start with Yvonne, to sound her out and see if she could figure out what kind of leverage the Zwick family had over Jeremy.

From what Emily knew about Yvonne, she was sure Yvonne would think she was just there to gloat, so she was ready to be turned away. But to her surprise, it wasn’t Yvonne who denied her visit. It was the staff.

“Yvonne got into a fight with her cellmate last night and was badly beaten up. She was sent to the hospital and still hasn’t come back,” the staff member explained.

Emily followed the address the staff gave her to the hospital. After speaking with the doctor, she headed to Yvonne’s room.

Yvonne was kept in a private room, her wrist still handcuffed to the bed. But for her, the handcuffs were unnecessary. She was in a vegetative state. Emily walked over to bed and sat down, tucking the blanket around Yvonne.

She glanced at Yvonne on the bed and let out a mocking laugh. “Funny how fate works, doesn’t it? Who would’ve thought that you, who acted so untouchable, would end up like this, all because of a single complaint?”

When Emily first heard what had happened, she almost couldn’t believe her ears.

The whole fight started just because Yvonne’s cellmate snored at night. Yvonne couldn’t help but complain, and that was all It took. The other woman dragged her off the bed and gave her a savage beating.

Yvonne tried to fight back, but that only made her attacker go even harder, leaving her in a vegetative state.

Emily couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Yvonne, how does it feel to finally get a taste of your own medicine?
