Chapter 263

It was like something exploded in Lucas’s mind. He just stood there in a daze, not even noticing when Emma snatched his phone right out of his hand. He turned to Lydia.

“What? Th-this…” Emma shrieked, her hands shaking as she clutched the phone. Her face went ashen, then deathly pale.

Emma whipped her head around to glare at Emily, her eyes brimming with disappointment, anger, and utter revulsion.

Emma said, “The Bennett family has stood tall in Cloudridge for so many years, and we’ve never been this humiliated. Emily, just how far are you going to drag us down before you finally stop?

“I must have the worst luck in the world to have ended up with you!” She could already imagine how those wealthy ladies. would mock her to her face every time they saw her.

Out of everyone in the Bennett family, no matter how much the others resented or rejected Emily, there was always a trace of motherly love left in Emma for her.

It was exactly that barely noticeable bit of affection that made Emily care more about Emma than anyone else in the Bennett family. So, when those words came from Emma, they cut deeper into Emily.

At that time, Emily didn’t have the energy to care about any of that. She saw those sickening comments on her own phone,

too.

Austin warned her earlier, but she’d just assumed it was someone trying to use Charles against her, or maybe use her to get at Charles.

But she never could have imagined things would go that far. In an instant, a wave of fury surged through her, threatening to burn away every last bit of her sanity.

Emily snapped her head up and fixed Lydia with a glare, her eyes swirling with murderous intent. Lydia, who had just been secretly gloating, felt her heart jolt in fear and took a step back.

“What is she trying to do?’ Lydia panicked, her mind going blank. Before Lydia could even steady herself, Emily strode straight toward her.
