Chapter 287
Chapter 287
Lucas’s face went pale. Suddenly, countless images flashed through his mind.
He seemed to see Emily sitting on the ground, her face as pale as a sheet, being blamed by others; Emily cowering helplessly in a corner, being scolded; Emily standing there, panic in her eyes, being interrogated.
And in every one of those scenes, among the figures blaming, scolding, and questioning her, were members of the Bennett Family, and Lucas was one of them.
In that instant, it was as if Lucas suddenly understood Emily’s situation with the Bennett Family and why she acted the way she did toward them now.
Yet, Lucas still didn’t get it. ‘Why? Mom, Dad, and Andrew were never unreasonable people. But why did they always lose all sense when it came to Emily?’ he wondered.
Lucas’s lips trembled as he slowly said, “I was just speaking my mind. I didn’t bully Lydia.”
Emma looked at him, her face full of disappointment. “We all saw it. Are you still trying to make excuses?”
Andrew’s eyes bore down on him. “Lucas, I’m only going to say this one more time. Apologize to Lydia right now,”
Lydia lay in Emma’s arms, not saying a word, just sobbing and hiccupping.
As Lucas watched the scene play out, a chilling, familiar sense washed over him, making his whole body tremble.
Only this time, he was the one on the receiving end; back then, it had been Emily standing where he was now.
Sometimes, one never really understood how much something hurt until one was the one getting stabbed.
Lucas stared blankly at the people in front of him. Along with confusion and shock, there was a creeping fear he couldn’t even put into words.
