Chapter 301
Lucas never thought that the family he had lived with for so many years could have such an ugly side to it.
He was just asking a fair question, but to them, it looked like he was picking on Lydia, and they even went so far as to hit
him.
They were family by blood, but the way they looked at him was as if he were their sworn enemy.
He couldn’t help but wonder if he had ever looked at Emily the same way, blaming and lashing out at her without even knowing the whole story.
As he carefully sifted through his memories, he realized he really had treated Emily the same way, wearing that same ugly expression as the rest of the Bennett Family. And every single time, it was for Lydia’s sake.
It was like Lucas had just stumbled onto some harsh truth. He jerked his head up, staring at Lydia, curled up and bawling in Emma’s arms, his face draining of color with every passing second.
Lucas suddenly remembered that it used to be Emily who was the one they cherished and doted on.
But somewhere along the way, they started picking on Emily for everything, and no matter what she did, it was always wrong in their eyes.
But the truth was, Emily had never done anything wrong. She even humbled herself, trying so hard to win them over, but all she ever got in return was their coldness and blame. It shouldn’t have been like this.
He’d promised himself since he was a kid that he’d always be good to Emily, that he’d always protect her. He didn’t understand how he ended up like this.
Lucas’s face was as pale as paper, and the way he stared at Lydia shifted from shock to anger, and then to pure hatred.
Lucas snapped, “This is all your fault, all because of you. If it weren’t for you, we never would have treated Emily that way. Why did you have to come back? Why did you have to steal everything that belonged to her?”
