Chapter 316
Emily turned her head and saw Austin, who had been silent the whole time, holding her hand. His face still wore that bright, cheerful smile.
She tilted her head and asked, “Don’t you think I’m scary?” Even she would have been scared of herself, seeing what she just
did.
But Austin didn’t even blink, his smile never fading. Instead of answering, he asked, “Emily, would you ever do that to me?”
Emily was momentarily stunned, but she understood almost immediately what he meant. He was saying that she would never treat him like that, so he wasn’t afraid.
Emily curved her lips into a smile and dropped the subject. The gloom that had been clouding her heart was gone. She glanced down at the lock of hair she’d been holding in her hand, frowning in thought.
It was Cale’s hair.
Emily thought, ‘If what Cale said is true, then he and Lydia have to be related by blood. But how to get Lydia’s DNA without her suspecting a thing?
‘I can’t let Lydia find out that I am holding Cale captive-not yet. There is something seriously off about Lydia, and if she realizes Cale is in my hand, all my hard-earned leads could vanish in an instant.
Seeing Emily staring at the hair in her hand, Austin could instantly tell what was on her mind. He whipped out a fancy, gold- embossed invitation and handed it over, clearly fishing for some praise.
Emily opened the invitation, her eyes going wide with delight. She exclaimed. “Amy’s birthday party?”
Seeing how happy she was, Austin looked pleased, too. He raised an eyebrow and said. “I remember you saying Amy was your idol, so when I heard she was having a birthday party here. I went out of my way to snag you an invitation.”
Emily was genuinely thrilled. Ever since she got into painting. Amy had always been her idol. But even with the Bennett Family’s influence, it was never easy to get in touch with Amy.
Emily had always regretted not being able to meet Amy face-to-face, and she never expected Austin would pull it off.
