Chapter 338
Lucas’s attitude was sincere, and there was even a hint of caution in his eyes-he didn’t look like he was lying at all. But Lydia didn’t believe for a second that he’d suddenly change his attitude for no reason.
She shot him a suspicious look and asked, “You’re really here to apologize?”
Lucas nodded eagerly. “Yeah, Vincent already gave me a good scolding.”
Lydia was still skeptical. She thought, ‘Lucas had rather be kicked out of the family than apologize to me before. How could Vincent’s words have changed his mind so easily?’
Back when Lucas suddenly softened up to the family and tried to come back, Lydia already felt something was off. That just wasn’t like the impulsive, proud Lucas at all.
Now, seeing him show up in her room, Lydia was even more convinced of her suspicions.
But she didn’t call him out. Instead, she just played along with a bright smile. “How could I ever blame you, Lucas? You’re my little brother.”
Something flickered quickly in Lucas’s eyes when he heard that. He kept a smile on his face the whole time, and then finally looked relieved. “Good thing you’re not mad.”
He bent down, picked up the necklace from the floor, put it back in its box, and then set the box on the bed. As he turned around, his hand slipped into his jacket pocket for a moment.

If Lydia had looked closely, she would’ve seen that he was holding a few long strands of hair. But since his body was in the way, Lydia didn’t notice a thing.
Lucas turned back to her with a warm smile. “Lydia, just take this gift for now. Next time, I’ll get you something even better.”
Lydia smiled and nodded. “Okay.”
They acted as if all the unpleasantness from before had never happened. But the second Lucas disappeared through the door, Lydia’s smile vanished.
