Chapter 28
Chapter 28
The door clicked shut behind him with a quiet finality.
Alejandro stood still for a moment, his fingers still curled around the handle. His jaw stunned by what happrised.
He exhaled slowly, then rolled his neck unlilit cracked. Her voice rang in his head.
My entire life has been hijacked by people like you…”
tight, eyes locked on the far wall of his bedroom. He was still
He didn’t like the way it lingered, and he definitely didn’t like the way it had sunk under his skin like a splinter he couldn’t remove
He turned away from the door and walked to the bathu oom, lipping on the lights.
Pausing when he got to the mirror, he turned to face it, already knowing what he would
The version of himself that stared back these days wasn’t the man the world loved. Not the playboy in tailored suits and lazy smiles.
This version was colder. More ruthless. A man sharpened by guilt, sculpted by vengeance, and draped in just enough charm to keep suspicion away
Taking off his clothes, he stopped into the glass shower and turned the dial all the way to cold.
A second passed. Then the water burst from the rain head. He didn’t flinch as the water touched him.
He stood there, bare, rigid, letting the cold cascade over him as the silence pressed in–amplified by the sting of every drop.
“I was going to use the injection on Nathaniel, get some naked pictures of him and threaten him into giving me my career back, but the bastard was a step ahead, and he drugged me.”
Her words echoed in his head again. Louder this time, and his fingers curled against the tiled wall
A part of him didn’t want to believe her, but the logical part realized she had to be telling the truth.
His mind took him back to that night, and it made so much sense as to why she looked out of place that night.
She was, out of place, and her carrying an injection with a drug that lethal finally made sense.
‘So that’s why you were there, he muttered to himself, and he chuckled, a bit hurt that she hadn’t been trying to get his attention like he had initially
thought.
He’d been convinced she was just another manipulative beauty. But she wasn’t. She was just an unlucky woman, desperate and alone.
Nivera was born with money, Privilege. Legacy. A name that opened doors around the world,
She shouldn’t have been desperate enough to corner a man like Nathaniel Blackwell if her family had supported her.
But she was.
And tonight, she’d looked at him like she hated high more than anyone. He slammed his hand flat against the wall, the slap echoing in the stone chamber.
Good! An evil fire burned in his eyes. He needed her to hate him, as that would make things easier. That would keep the line clear.
He tilted his head back beneath the water and closed his eyes.
Just because it had been proven that she wasn’t in the wrong that night didn’t change the fact that she had caught his attention, and she was going to be very useful in the grand scheme of things
