Chapter 45
The drive was silent
Nivera sat stiffly in the passenger seat of Alejandro’s desk black car, the leather interior suffocating in its perfection.
Meanwhile, Alejandro drove with one hand on the wheel, his dark sunglasses shielding his eyes even though the sky was overcast.
Hos expression was unreadable as though it had been carved from stone, cold and corporate
A glint of silver in his ears drew her attention, and she turned back to the window when she saw that they were from his AirPods
She could hear faint mums from them as be answered a call. His voice was low and commanding, nach word sharp and me blade.
“No. Move the shipment up. We can’t afford delays. Not with what’s coming,”
Nivera glanced at him when she heard him hiss sharply. Whatever he was discussing seemed to be senous
i don’t care what your projections say–tell Fabian to do what I’m paying him for
Another pause
“No, I’ll handle the board myself. Just be ready when I call.”
The call ended with a tap, but he didn’t even glance her way. Not once.
And that was perhaps what disturbed her the most
It wasn’t that he ignored her. He already treated her like shit when he was in a ‘good mood.
The last thing she needed was him taking out his anger on her and further making her suffer.
Nivera turned back to the window, watching buildings blur past.
The silence between them wasn’t just awkward–it was oppressive. A quiet that screamed louder than any argument they’d had so far
Where were they going!
Before she could ask, she pulled out her phone–mostly to distract hersell, as she knew she wasn’t
Her heart dropped when her phone lit up, and she saw that she had received a message
it wasn’t any ordinary message but one from her father.
The name alone felt like ice poured down her spine.
one to get any answers from him.
She hadn’t heard from him in two years. Not since he’d issued his ultimatumn. Not since he had turned his back on her for good.
At some point, she had convinced herself that he had lost her number.
With trembling fingers and against her better judgement, she opened it.
“I’m looking at the photos. You’ve truly sunk to a new low.
Associating yourself with the likes of Alejandro Garcia.
Have you no shame lett, Nivera?”

She paused to take a deep breath before she continued to read the message.
“You were always a disappointment. I hoped lime would change that. Clearly,
Her lungs emptied when she finished reading the message. It was like the air had been punched out of her chest,
She stared at the words, rereading them again and again, as if hoping they’d transform into something else.
They didn’t.
She blinked rapidly, shoving her phone back into her
to her purse like it had burned her
He hadn’t asked how she was. He hadn’t even pretended to care. Just straight into the accusation. Straight into disappointment
And why was he surprised? Hadn’t she always been the imperfect one?
The rebellious daughter who wanted her own name instead of the family’s? Who wanted to walk runways instead of halls of power
“Breathe,” she whispered to herself, low enough that Alejandro wouldn’t hear, though he still hadn’t acknowledged her.
Finally, they pulled up in front of a modern glass building nestled in the heart of the city
Sleek. Corporate. Expensive. The kind of place dreams were either made… or broken.
Nivera frowned. She recognized the crest on the side of the building
It belonged to Alejandro’s family. Just how many damn buildings did his family own?
Alejandro stepped out first, walking around the car without a word, opening the passenger door like a chauffeur.
She climbed out cautiously, her mind still spinning from the message, from the weight of memories pressing down like a vice.
Seeing as she was outside, he turned and began to make his way into the building.
“Asshole,” Nivera muttored as she followed him.
They didn’t speak as they moved through a grand lobby, floors gleaming beneath their feet.
Staff greeted Alejandro with soft nods and bowed heads, while their eyes darted toward her in curiosity–though none dared question.
After taking turn after turn, he stopped in front of a closed door.
“I have some matters to deal with,” he said, voice cool. “Wait in here, and need fremind you not to try anything funny?”
Before she could protest or ask where exactly she was, he opened the door and gestured
She stepped in slowly, and the door shut behind her with a soft click
It took her a second to realize where she was
A fashion runway room
Bright lights illuminated a long catwalk, and rows of chairs lined either side of it.
Designers, stylists, and scouts sat observing as a group of models walked, pivoted, posed, and then glided back.
It wasn’t a show, it was a practice session. But still the atmosphere hummed with energy.
Nivera’s breath caught. The ache was immediate. Sharp. Deep.

She sank into a seat at the edge of the room, trying to make herself invisible, fut her eyes were wide, devouring the scars in front of he
It had been so long since shell stepped foot in a place like this.
And it felt like coming home..only to find someone else living in your room.
The models tall, radiant, confident walked with an ease that used to be hers. She knew some of them, Had worked with them. Shared dressing rooms, laughs, battles for spotlight.
Now!
She caught the eye of one.
Then another.
A smirk here. A raised eyebrow there. Whispers exchanged like currency.
Some didn’t even bother to hide their amusement. She was once a rising star and was even projected to reach the top of the industry in a short amount of time.
However, all that changed, all thanks to one event and one man, and it hurt. It hurt so much more than she expected as her mind began to come up with the “what ifs.”
The questions circled like vultures, pocking at what was left of her confidence.
She didn’t know how long she sat there.
The world moved on around her. Laughter, camera clicks, designer mutters. She barely noticed any of it.
Until she felt a breath against her ear and heard a voice she’d come to associate with disaster and desire both.
“Do you miss it?”
