Chapter 88
Steam still clung to the air as Nivera stepped out of the bathroom, with her towel tightly wrapped around her body and water droplets trailing down 14
She froze mid Mep when her eyes landed on the very same man she thought she had mentally banished moments ago.
Alejandro, who was still in her room and still lounging on her bed.
He was scrolling on that damned tablet like it was his office, and she didn’t just walk out half–naked
“What the hell?” she hissed, clutching the towel tighter.
“Are you ser
serious right now?” Her voice was sharp.
He didn’t even glance up said your room had better lightening”
“That was five minutes ago. Why are you still here? Don’t you have work to get to?!”
He tilted the screen slightly, eyes still scanning it. “I am working. Remote work is a thing, Caberota
Nivera clutched the towel tighter. “You couldn’t have worked from literally anywhere else?”
“Your room has been lightening.” Alejandro replied, glancing at the bedside clock. “Also, in case you’ve forgotten, the clock is ticking, and you’ve got exactly thirty three minutes to get there. Might want to move faster, Cabezota
That was en
was enough to send her into motion. She darted toward the closet, muttering curses under her breath.
ide, she towel–dried her hair as quickly as possible.
Her heart thudded violently in her chest as she scanned through racks of clothing, nothing jumping out at her.
Nothing looked right. Every outfit seemed either too formal, too casual, or just wrong
Deciding to settle, she yanked out two options–a fitted navy blue sheath dress with gold buttons down the side and a soft blush–pink number that flowed just past her knees Clutching both, she ran out.
“Which one?” she demanded, standing in front of Alejandro like she hadn’t just accused him of being a creep two minutes earlier.
“Hurry, which one? You have decent laste, don’t make me regret asking.”
Alejandro finally looked up from his tablet, squinting at both outfits with practiced calculation. He tilted his head, eyes dragging from her Hushed face
down to the dresses,
“The navy,” he said eventually, pointing with the end of the stylus. “It matches the vibe of the meeting. Serious, clean. Shows you mean business.”
Yend the heels?*
“And
“Nude. Closed toe. Keeps the focus on what you’re saying, not how you’re walking. The your hair up so they can see your face properly.”
“Thank you!” Nivera responded as she turned and disappeared back into the closet.
Within minutes, she was slipping on the dress, the fabric hugging her in all the right places. Her hair was pulled into a sleek ponytail, a few damp strands clinging stubbornly to her neck.
She twisted awkwardly, trying to get the zipper up, but it caught halfway.
Goodness,
she really didn’t work well under pressure.

“Damn it,” she muttered. Giving up, she stormed back out. “Please help.”
Alejandro immediately rose, setting the tablet aside. She turned around, presenting him ber bare back.
He stepped close, fingers brushing her spine as he guided the ripper up slowly, which caused her breath to hitch.
The motion was careful, almost too careful, and it sent a flutter through her chest.
“Do I look okay?”
“Relax,” he said softly. “You look fine.”
“I’m asking because I don’t want to look like a disaster.”
“You don’t. If you did, I’d have told you.” He stated it, and his words immediately made her calm down, as she knew it was true.
Alejandro paid a lot of attention to her physical appearance, especially in public, and he would let out there if she looked like a mess.
He tugged the zipper into place and smoothed the fabric. Then, with both hands on her shoulders, he turned her gently to face him. His eyes scanned her with a thoroughness that made her blush.
He tucked a strand of damp hair behind her ear. “You look perfect.”
A smile tugged at her lips, unexpected and giddy. “Really?”
He nodded once, and her stomach did a flip. She turned her gaze down to adjust her dress, trying to hide it
“Let’s go,” he said, his voice suddenly firmer. “We don’t want to be late, even though we already are.”
They left the room together and made their way to the car. As she settled into the passenger seat, Nivera’s nerves returned with full force.
She fidgeted with her hands, eyes flicking to the passing streets and her reflection in the window. Her chest felt tight, as a lot depended on her getting the deal
Alejandro glanced at her briefly, noting the death grip she had on her clutch
“You’re sweating”
“Gee, thanks for the observation.”
“Want me to turn on the A/C? Or do you want to continue dripping anxiety all over my leather seats?”
She shot him a look. “This meeting is important. If screw this up, it could
l
set me back months.”
“You won’t screw it up.”
“How would you know?
“Because you have a mouth that doesn’t know how to quit.”
“That’s not a compliment.”
“It is when you’re trying to win people over in a room. You’re persuasive. Unapologetic. And stubborn as hell.”
“Thanks,” she deadpanned. “Really inspiring?
“Look, Caberota, the worst thing you can do is go in there looking like you’re about to throw up.”
“I’m not about to throw up.”

She looked down and stilled her foot
why your foot hasn’t stopped tapping since we got in the car?
“You always do that when you’re pervous?”
“Powhat?”
“Chew your lip like it wronged you and tap your feet?
She narrowed her eyes at him. “I’m trying to focus.”
“Focusing by chewing your lip off? That’s new”
“Stop reading me.”
“Then stop being readable”
“I swear, if you keep talking-
“You’ll what? Glare me to death? You’ve tried. Doesn’t work.”

scoffed and turned to the window. “You’re annoying”
“Yet you asked for my fashion advice.”
“A moment of weakness.”
“A moment of trust because you know I’m the fashionable one here,” he corrected with a smirk.
“I’m the model,” she pointed out.
“And is that supposed to help your case?” Alejandro raised a brow, which made Nivera huff, and she looked out the window again, but the corner of her lips twitched.
He always managed to provoke her into forgetting what she was worried about. Infuriating as he was, it worked.
The car slowed to a stop in front of a sleek glass building. She inhaled deeply
“You’ll be fine,” Alejandro assured her. “And in case you’re wondering, I’m not just saying that because I like the view in that dress”
