Saved By The King’s Gamma novel Chapter 36

I watch as Gannon cradles Tyson in his arms, the soft rise and fall of his chest matching the tapping of Tyson’s fingers against his shirt. Gannon holds him so carefully, like he’s something precious, and I feel my heart twist painfully in my chest. Tyson rests his head against Gannon, his little hand gripping tightly to the fabric of Gannon’s shirt like he’s afraid to let go.

I never asked him. Never once did I ask if he even wanted kids. I never asked if he was okay with me keeping Tyson. It was selfish—so incredibly selfish—but the thought of being without Tyson was unbearable. Even if it meant Gannon leaving me, even if it meant losing the only person who had ever truly made me feel safe, I couldn’t give Tyson up. Not after everything.

The fear I carried that Mrs. Daley had killed him, that Kade’s promise to return him was a lie I held on to out of desperation—still grips me now. If someone tried to take him from me again, I wouldn’t survive it. I couldn’t. I’d rather die than lose him.

But now there’s this new fear gnawing at me. What if Gannon doesn’t want this? What if he’s only saying it because he doesn’t want to hurt me? What if I’m too much? Tyson’s needs, my baggage—what if it’s too much for him? I know Azalea would never abandon us, but I never even asked Gannon if he wanted kids.

I bite my lip hard, trying to keep my emotions in check as I watch Gannon gently rock Tyson, his large hand stroking his hair. Tyson’s eyes are half-lidded, his body completely relaxed in Gannon’s arms, as if he knows he’s safe. As if he can sense that Gannon means no harm. My chest tightens painfully at the sight. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted—a home, a safe place for Tyson—but I can’t shake the fear that this is temporary, that it’ll be ripped away at any moment.

I don’t realize I’m clenching my hands until Gannon glances over at me, his brow furrowed slightly in concern.

“You okay?” he asks softly, his voice pulling me out of my thoughts.

I nod quickly, forcing a small smile. “Yeah, I’m fine.” Liar.

Before Gannon can say anything else, a familiar voice calls out from the doorway.

“I come bearing gifts!” Liam announces cheerfully, striding into the room with a bag in hand. He flashes me a grin before holding the bag up triumphantly. “Swung by Clarice’s and borrowed some of Logan’s clothes. Should fit the little guy until you can get him some of his own.”

I blink, taken aback by how casually Liam says it—like it’s the most normal thing in the world for us to be figuring out clothes for Tyson. He sets the bag down on the bed and starts rummaging through it, pulling out a pair of soft gray sweatpants and a little T-shirt with a cartoon wolf on it.

“These should do for now,” Liam says, holding them up before glancing at Tyson, who’s watching him with quiet curiosity. “What do you think, buddy? Wolf shirt cool enough for you?”

Tyson doesn’t respond, of course, but his fingers twitch slightly, and I recognize the subtle sign of approval. I let out a shaky breath, grateful beyond words for Liam’s effort.

“Thank you, Liam,” I say quietly, my voice wavering slightly.

“Don’t mention it. Consider it part of my uncle duties,” he says with a wink before turning to Gannon. “You guys get him dressed, and I’ll go see if his food is ready, Clarice was making him something.”
