Marcelo felt numb after a long day and night of work.
But as he wrapped up, thoughts of Renee flooded his mind.
Her grace, charm, elegance, and playfulness.
And especially the look of resistance and disappointment in her eyes the previous night.
A dull ache spread through his heart.
That was when Damian called him.
“Marcelo, I've got to ask! Was it your wife playing the violin at the banquet last night?" Damian asked Marcelo’s, prompted by Gerardo's curiosity.
Being in the entertainment industry, he knew the talents and interests of the wealthy families. After ruling out other skilled violinists from the event, he figured it must have been Renee.
“Yes, it was her."
Damian sensed Marcelo’s sour mood and carefully asked, "What's wrong? Is something bothering you?"
“No," Marcelo responded quickly, dismissing the notion.
Damian was left at a loss for words. That tone Marcelo used wasn't fooling anyone.
“Should I just hang up then?" Damian asked.
Without any delay, Marcelo ended the call.
Damian stood there, speechless. Talk about being cold-hearted!
After some contemplation, Damian contacted Luke to get to the bottom of the situation.
Luke, who was usually very precise and calm, sounded drained. "Mr. Damian, we've been in a meeting since eleven last night and haven't slept since."
Damian was stunned. That was incredibly harsh!
He suddenly felt grateful for his more lenient boss.
“So what's up with Marcelo?" he inquired.
Luke pondered aloud, saying, "Maybe... he argued with his wife?"
Marriage is such a burden. Marcelo would never have acted so impulsively before marriage, lashing out at work and his staff!
Damian thought it over.
That didn't seem right.
Everything at the banquet last night had seemed fine. The topics in their social circle were "Marcelo standing up for Renee" and "Marcelo protecting Renee." Those who previously saw Renee as just a fling were starting to respect her, especially after last night.
Several wealthy families were even encouraging their children to reconnect with Renee.
How could Renee and Marcelo have had a dispute right after that event?
Finally, at five in the afternoon, the workday concluded.
Marcelo couldn't stay at the office any longer and returned to the Manor.
The executives heaved a sigh of relief, feeling like they had just dodged a bullet. Finally, no more unexpected late hours!
“Where's my wife?" Marcelo reached the main house, only to discover that Renee was nowhere to be found.
“She left early this morning," a servant replied.
Marcelo settled on the sofa, opening his laptop to work.
As time ticked away, he was unable to concentrate on his emails. He kept his focus firmly fixed on the front door.
But by eleven o'clock, there was still no sign of Renee.
Marcelo’s expression grew increasingly grim.
Chad, sensing the tension, discreetly reached out to Renee on the phone. "Ma'am, are you caught up with work today? When will you return? I can send someone to pick you up."
Renee had picked up a takeaway and said, "I'm sorry, Chad, it slipped my mind to inform you. I'll be staying out for a bit longer."
“What? Staying out?" Chad was taken aback as if hit by a bolt of lightning.
Marcelo was already seething with frustration. Adding fuel to the fire, Renee decided not to come home!
“Yeah, I'm back at Bellbanks University. I'll be here for a bit due to certain arrangements, and it's quite secure here," Renee explained.
She realized she couldn't conceal her location from Marcelo’s probing, opting for honesty.
Chad, at a loss, nonetheless updated Marcelo. "Mr. King, I just spoke with Mrs. King and..."
“Who told you to call her?" Marcelo interjected sharply.
Familiar with his disposition, Chad reported, "She's at Bellbanks University, staying on campus for now."
