“The rumors have already gone viral, so deleting the posts won't make much of a difference," Renee remarked with a careless shrug as she swiped her card to gain entry into the dorm. "Wherever there's smoke, there's always a fire. If there was not so much evidence, would netizens have believed the rumors in the first place? Would people in his circle have believed them? Moreover..."
She paused, and then added with a scoff, "The fact that Marcelo, as someone who values his privacy, deleted the posts doesn't mean he's denying anything."
It might even be his way of protecting Vivian and preventing her from becoming gossip fodder. After all, Marcelo had always seen Vivian as a special person.
Just as they were settling down in their dorm room, Marvin suddenly called.
Sarah saw the caller ID, but she muted the phone and ignored the call.
Not long after, Vance also called.
Worried that something bad had happened, she answered it this time.
“Sarah, you're deliberately ignoring my calls, eh?" the voice on the other end said accusingly.
It was none other than Marvin!
“Um...I didn't hear the phone ring," Sarah lied, already making a mental note to not answer Vance’s calls too next time.
“By the way, why did you call? Do you need something?" she quickly asked in an innocent tone.
“I just wanted to invite you for dinner," Marvin told her.
“I just had dinner," Sarah replied immediately.
“Then how about a late-night snack?" Marvin suggested. "I'm already down here, outside your dorm building."
“I've already bought snacks. They're on the coffee table in front of me as we speak," Sarah replied in a firm tone. "In fact, I don't plan to go out tonight."
Marvin recalled what Sarah had once said about the basic rules of courtship being "obedience," so he tried a different approach. "How about tomorrow, then? Why don't we have breakfast together?"
“I plan to sleep in, so no, there will be no need for that," She responded.
“Lunch then?" Marvin persisted.
“No, I..."
“But Sarah, you agreed to let me chase you!" Marvin wailed in frustration before she could finish rejecting his latest suggestion.
He sounded like he had been duped.
“What?!" Sarah gasped in astonishment. "When did I agree to such a thing?"
She knew it was impossible for her to make such an agreement.
“Well, you didn't outrightly refuse," Marvin grumbled.
Well, this was one of the benefits of playing dumb. Even if she had rejected him, he could act like he didn't know.
Sarah was so frustrated that she didn't know what to say.
Had she really failed to refuse him?
But if she remembered correctly, he had told her that her refusal wouldn't stop him from continuing to chase her!
“Let me make myself clear, Marvin," she said in a firm tone that brooked no discussion. "There will be no eating, no going out together, and no romantic relationship!"
Then she hung up. She definitely wasn't going to be persuaded or pressured into being close to him.
“What is going on with you and Marvin?" Renee asked tentatively. Despite only hearing Sarah’s side of the conversation, she could sense the tension present in their exchange.
“He said he wants to keep chasing me," Sarah informed her.
He had also said that he liked her and that he would like to marry her.
Renee was shocked by this.
But given the previous incident where she caught Marvin forcibly kissing Sarah, this didn't sound unexpected after all.
“Renee, do you know how I feel right now?" Sarah mumbled.
A young, handsome guy like this was already married?
But so what? She was only trying to strike up a conversation, not suggesting that he cheat on his wife with her!
Marcelo suddenly stopped in his tracks as he moved forward.
“Luke, go purchase another cup of milk tea," he instructed, remembering that Sarah was currently living with Renee.
However, he had no intention of personally acquiring Sarah’s portion.
Luke knew the reason behind Marcelo’s command and responded with a nod,
“Sure."
Owing to Luke’s recent hard work, Marcelo had doubled his quarterly bonus. Luke thought of using the bonus to invest in two milk tea shops. It would be a fitting gesture for Renee.
Ten minutes later, Marcelo, holding two cups of milk tea, encountered the middle-aged dormitory manager during the registration process.
The manager scrutinized the information Marcelo provided and asked with suspicion, "Are you here for Miss Hudson?"
“Yes."
"You're the one!" The manager abruptly seized the registration book, obstructing Marcelo from completing the registration process.
“Leave! Miss Hudson is a woman, and you, being a man, are not allowed to enter and see her."
Yesterday, he visited Renee without any hindrance, but today, it appeared to be impossible.
Marcelo promptly sensed the peculiarity in the manager's statements. "You recognize me?"
“Of course, you're the big shot trying to harass Miss Hudson, aren't you?" The manager eyed Marcelo suspiciously. "You're all dressed up and appearing so respectable, but I bet you're up to no good. Young folks these days are learning all the wrong things."
Marcelo felt bewildered.
