Chapter61.
I stifled a cough, clamping a hand over my mouth and fleeing.

Xander was about to push Anna away when he heard muffled footsteps behind him. The was thick, usually muffling sounds, but running, no matter how plush the carpet, always makes noise. Especially for a werewolf’s keen hearing, it was even clearer. He turned to look. She was
gone.
“Xander!”
Anna, drunk, cupped his face in her hands. Xander’s expression turned cold. He pulled her hands away and tossed her onto the sofa.“Anna, if you act up again, I’ll throw you into the sea.” He wiped his chin with the back of his hand, narrowly avoiding her kiss. His wolf was growing impatient, “CAN’T SHE FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO ENTANGLE?”

“I know you gave me up because of Xavier, but he likes me. Is that opinion before giving me up to him?” Anna murmured, lying there.

Xander sat opposite her, his tone calm yet earnest.“I’ve told you countless times, and I thought you understood. One shouldn’t be so greedy on both.”
Anna looked up at him, as if gazing at the stars.“I only covet you, please claim me.”
Xander sighed.“I think you need a psychiatrist. You’re sick.”
Anna’s tears flowed uncontrollably.“I am sick. I’ve been terminally ill since the day you hypocritically said you didn’t like me… incurable…”

When Xander returned to the card room, I was already sitting next to Zane. I had intended to find a quiet spot to wait, but I wasn’t sure if I’d been seen running away. If they returned and I wasn’t there… they’d immediately suspect me. So, returning to the card room was the safest option.
“Mr. Shaw, you’re back,” Zane said, relieved. Playing this game really tested one’s heart. He genuinely admired me. He’d get anxious with a few more chips, yet I was going all–in…
Zane stood up. I also stood up quickly.
“Sit,” Xander said indifferently.
“…Ah?” I had already half–raised myself.“I’ll go keep Ms. Moore company.”
“She’s resting in her room. She doesn’t need you,” he said, his voice slightly displeased.
I looked at Xander as he sat down, my mind filled with questions. Why wasn’t he happy that I was going to keep Ms. Moore company? Could it be…?
Did my earlier embrace make him think I was trying to take advantage of Ms. Moore? No, I’m
not a lesbian! What was he thinking!
Xander looked at the additional chips.“Zane is having good luck.”
