Chapter 404 Extra: A Day In Sterling’s Life (Part Four)
When Sterling heard that, his ears turned red immediately.
He only ever cooked to fill his stomach. At 18, all he cared about was survival–he never spent time trying to get better at cooking.
“I’ll learn,” he said, staring straight into her eyes.
Next time you see me, I’ll be able to make all your favorite dishes.
Claudia suddenly found the 18–year–old Sterling incredibly cute.
Her stare was too obvious, so Sterling awkwardly looked away and served her another bite, trying to sound cool. “Eat up.”
Claudia couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Leah, sitting in her high chair and feeding herself, heard her mom laugh and started kicking her little legs, flashing a toothy grin of her own.
Watching the scene before him, Sterling felt a warmth creeping into his heart without even noticing.
After their evening walk, Claudia went to shower, while Sterling took on bedtime duty with the little one.
Leah rested her chin on Sterling’s stomach as he read her a bedtime story, her doll–like face full of dramatic expressions as she listened.
He reached over and pinched her soft, chubby cheek. “This is the last story. You really should be asleep now.”
Leah let go, laid her head on his stomach, and closed her eyes. “I’m already sleeping.”
But her trembling eyelashes gave away her plan to stay up and play as soon as he left.
Sterling had never liked how delicate kids were, but maybe it was the blood connection–he only felt endless tenderness for Leah.
He patted her head and asked, “Leah, do you like Daddy?”
He wondered if someone who’d never been loved like him could really be a good dad.
Leah’s eyes flew open. She looked at him with a confused stare, as if she didn’t really understand his question, but she answered enthusiastically anyway. “Of course, Daddy, I love you so, so, so much!”
Her dad was the best dad in the world.
And then she remembered her mom and added, “I love Mommy so, so, so, so much, too.”
Mommy gets one more ‘so‘ than Daddy.
Because Daddy said Mommy worked really hard to bring me into this world.
Her godmother, Whitney, had told her that during those last months of Mommy’s pregnancy, Dad was so anxious he hardly slept. She even said that when she and Mommy came out of the delivery room, Daddy had secretly cried.
Her Mommy was the bravest ever for giving birth to her!
Sterling suddenly hugged her tight. “Thank you, sweetheart.”
Leah just patted his shoulder. “You’re welcome, Daddy.”
Hearing that, a genuine smile spread across Sterling’s face.
At 32, Sterling was insatiable in his need for intimacy. However, at 18, he had been so shy he didn’t even dare look at Claudia when her nightgown slipped.
Claudia pressed him down on the bed, teasing, “Call me Baby. That’s what you usually call me.”
Sterling didn’t know what to do with his hands, and he was desperately trying to ignore the way her body pressed up against him and the warmth rising in a certain part of his body. Was his 32–year–old self really this wild in bed?
He thought of all those odd clothes and “toys” he’d seen in the closet while looking for her pajamas earlier and felt his face darken.
Apparently, his future self really was pretty daring when it came to sex.
Looking up at the beautiful, mischievous woman above him, a strange pang of jealousy hit him.
