Chapter 64
Triss’s nov
My breath hitched, and my lips parted. Thorne’s words echoed in my mind, and I couldn’t process them. I couldn’t be he had just chose me. The room felt like it was spinning as I tried to wrap my head around it, but the tunned silence around me said everything No one could believe, not even
Elara, of all people, broke the silence with a sharp clap of her hands. “Go, Trisst” the cheered, her smile lighting up the ros
room.
I felt my face flush instantly, heat rising in my neck as my gaze dropped to the floor. I wasn’t used to this attention, not like this. “W Want, I can’t” stammered, my hands flailing in panic. “There are others stronger, more capable warriors–why would you choose me?”
Thome’s voice was steady, his smile unwavering. “You’re not the only option, but you’re the best choice. You’ve been training the soldiers, you know how things work here. We’ve talked to the elders, and they all agree with me.”
I could barely process the words as they landed on me. One elder spoke up then, their voice warm and sincere. “You have our support too, Triss. With you as Gamma, we can set things back on track.”
The buzz in the room didn’t die down, but i felt frozen, my mind racing I wasn’t sure how to respond to this.
“I agree with Alpha Thorne,” one soldier called out, his voice carrying across the room. “Triss has kept us together since Garron disappeared strong, smart, and frankly, she’s the best we’ve got.”
“She’ll be the first female Gamma in Direstone Pack!” someone else shouted, “It’s about time a woman takes the lead!”
The room exploded into a wave of cheers. “Triss! Triss! Triss!”
I stood there, stunned, my face burning hotter than I thought possible. I was flattered, sure, but this was all too much. I had never been in the spotlight like this, never imagined something like this happening to me.
Elara leaned in, a mischievous grin on her face. “You better agree, or they chant your name forever.”
I shot her a helpless look. “I don’t know, Elara… this is too much. Leading an army? I don’t think I can handle that.”
She just grinned at me, nudging me lightly. “Handle it? Triss, you’ve been handling it. You’ve been keeping this pack together while Garron’s been playing at being Alpha. This is your chance to get the credit you deserve.”
With that, she stood up and raised her voice to rally the crowd. “Wright, everyone! Your new Gamma has something to say!”
The room fell into a breathless silence, all eyes turning to me. My heart raced, my pulse pounding in my ears. For a moment, I felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. But I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves.
I cleared my throat, my voice shaky at first, but growing stronger with every word. “Thank you. Thank you all for your trust and support, really appreciate it. Let’s work together to protect our pack… and kick some rogue ass!”
The room erupted into applause, the cheers so loud they almost deafened me.
“Well said, Gamma Triss!” someone called out.
“Let’s do it!” another voice shouted.
I smiled, my nerves easing just a little. But then a voice cut through the cheers, cold and sharp
“Wait a second. What about Garron? Is he just going to get away with what he’s done?”
Myh
y heart skipped a beat. I felt all eyes shift to the young man whose anger had been his only weapon. “Is he going to face a public trial like Lady Miela? We’ve been waiting for him to get punished!”
