Elara’s POV

“Leave herl” The rogue shouted, desperation sharp in his voice, but the words never fully escaped his lips.

In the blink of an eye, a massive black woll leaped from the shadows, its jaws closing around the rogue’s neck in one swit motion. He barely had time to scream before the wolf’s fangs dug deep, ripping his life away in a single instant.

I buried my face in his neck, the familiar scent of him mixed with the coppery sting of blood. It felt like safety, but at the same time, it reminded me of the chaos that had just unfolded.

She made to reach for me, but Thorne shifted slightly, positioning himself between us.

“Who went into the woods with Elara?” His voice was cold, eyes narrowing as he stared at them

Jory, looking down at his boots, hesitated before speaking. “…I did.”

“Why didn’t you stay close to your Gamma and keep her safe?” Thorne’s voice was hard, each word a sharp reminder of the responsibility Jary had failed to fulfil “You were supposed to be her protector”

Jory lowered his head, his shoulders slumped with guilt. I could see the way he blamed himself, and it made my heart ache.
