Chapter 126
“Torq,” she looked at the man who was watching her curiously, “I will not tolerate anyone insulting my son.”
“Understood. Do what you must.”
Akcee looked at Raniero who gave her a nod and Clanna huffed and threw her napkin on her plate an
angrily.
“This is absurd. You are a nobody.”
Alcer grabbed the woman by the very neat and tidy bun at the back of her head and pushed her face forward into the plate. Raniero jumped as if ready to help his mother, but Alcee growled at him. “Do not interfere.” She leaned over Cianna, “I was going to do this privately but since you insist on scenes, let’s make one. You might think I’m some sad little girl who got hooted out by her family because she got pregnant at twenty- one but let me tell you something Cianna, I am a survivor. I am strong and I am resilient, and I am fucking powerful and that little boy and that man at the end of this table are my world. The woman sitting across from you, is the one I call Mama now because she deserves all the love and respect in the world. Do you think you, a woman who was nothing more than a homewrecker, a mistress who managed to get pregnant, thinks because she birthed the brother of the Don, gets to offer commentary on anything which has to do with the Lozano family? No. You get no say. You are here out of courtesy and respect for Raniero, He is a Lozano. He is a man who has fought valiantly for his family and it’s name. You are nothing. Dare to comment, even in your head about my son, my husband, my mother, my sister, my father, and I will make sure you go back to Sicily, and you will not be permitted to ever return to sit in the glory of this family. Am I clear?”
“You don’t have the power.”
Raniero was on his feet, “mother.”
Alcee held a finger up to him and pointed for him to sit. “Torq, my love.”
“Yes my love?”
“What if I want all of your money transferred to my account?”
“Done.”
“What if I want to pack us up and we live off an island in, oh, I don’t know, let’s say, Fiji?”
“Done”
“What if I want to never work another day in my life, put my feet up and just get fat and eat candy?”
“Share the candy, please, but done.”
The room laughed at his words despite the fact Cianna’s face was still pressed into her bread plate.
“My love, if I tell you I do not like this woman and I very much want her to be removed from our inner circle and shipped back to Sicily because she likes to upset my mother, who I have grown to love in a very short time, what would you do?”
“She would be on the first flight back.”
“Despite Raniero’s objections.”
“Absolutely. He is my brother. You sleep in my bed, I find you far more dangerous given you could slit my throat while I sleep.” Again, the room tittered with laughs.
Raniero twitched in his seat and Bastiano put his hand around his shoulder and whispered in his ear and the man closed his eyes, exhaling and then looking to Alcee, “I wouldn’t object, Alcee. You are the Donna.”
am the Donna. He is the Don. The child at the end of the table you said is fussy, is the future Don of the family, Cianna. He is the heir to all of this and someday, he is going to remember you. He is going to remember the woman who sat at his father’s table and insulted him. You are not building friendships here. Do not cross me again. Do not think because you birthed an underbuss you deserve an opinion.” Alcee bunched her fingers in the woman’s hair and squeezed knowing damn well it was pulling and hurting. “Nothing left to say, Cianna?”
The woman shook her head as much as she could.
Chapter 126
“Raniero, escort your mother to the toilets so she can clean herself up. You can have a clear discussion with her on what basic etiquette is when dining with the Don and his family. It is clear from her behavior she was never afforded such luxuries in the past and needs an education. See to it she gets it. I want her back at this table, behaving appropriately in ten minutes.”
Raniero was on his feet and dragging his mother through the dining area to the washrooms. Alcee brushed her hands on her skirt, and she rounded the table to Brunella and kissed her cheek softly,
“I will always have your back, Mama.”
Brunella’s eyes watered as she cupped Alcee’s c
cheek. “You didn’t need to do this.”
“I did need to do this. I will not let anyone disrespect my family. I learned what respect is from a family who never respected me. This one makes me feel it in my bones. I will not waste the gift of you, Cicciu and my family on someone who was never taught what respect was. She will learn. She will learn to respect this family and if she cannot, she will he exiled.”
She smiled at Brunella and saw tears on Lorita’s face.
