Chapter 129
The minute they put Antero on his feet in the condominium he was off in search of Avalanche,
“Is it wrong, I want to take the dog and go somewhere I know he feels safe.”
“You mean your old apartment.”
“Yes.”
“It’s not wrong but hor safe would you be?” Amal commented sadly as she moved to the refrigerator and began making an ice pack for Alcee’s mouth which was still bleeding pretty damn good with a good hule behind her bottom lip where her tooth caught it. “Torq made a huge statement tonight entering the restaurant was boldly as he did. The paparazzi were everywhere. I know they were camping out when we were leaving. I bet they got some great shots of us manhandling a kid like we were kidnapping him. This world isn’t without enemies, and your face was already made as Don Mariani’s daughter. Its going to put a bullseye on you for a while. You need to keep with your security detail. This alone was risky.”
“I know you’re right.” She was standing in the middle of the living room, her bottom lip wobbling as she hated herself for how much she was dreading going to check on Antern. “I’m a bad mather,”
“No, honey you’re not a bad mother.”
“I let it go too long. I let things go too long. I saw the warning signs and I ignored them thinking because Torg was there it wouldn’t happen. I
even know why I thought it, but I did.”
“Because he makes you feel safe, Alcee and it includes with your son.”
“He makes me blind is what he does. I feel like it’s sunshine and lollipops with unicorns who shoot rainbows out their asses because it feels so fucking good to let someone else be the parent. Not that you two haven’t been because you are but it’s different. I ignored it and now he’s in there, hurting and confused and unable to express to me what he’s feeling. He was scared of Torq in the car, and I didn’t acknowledge it. He kept commenting about Tory’s eyebrow touching in the middle and how cranky he was. I knew and I let this happen and he’s only a little boy who can’t regulate his emotions and I didn’t help.”
“Alcee, stop.” Susana put her hands on her shoulders and gave her a gentle shake. “I love you and I say this with all the love in my heart, but you’re being stupid. You did notice. You were arguing with a man who is more stubborn than imaginable. You were trying to do what is right for your family by putting your partner’s needs up front and it’s okay. It wasn’t the right decision, but you don’t hold the weight of the decision alone. Tory pushed this. Seriously a front–page Times‘ ad would do the same thing as a giant dinner. He made this choice despite your objections.”
“I didn’t really object enough though.”
*Would it have mattered?” Amal held the plastic sandwich bag filled with ice and wrapped in a washcloth to her. A crash from down the hall made them all flinch and look in the direction of the child’s bedroom and Amal squeeze Alcee’s fingers, “come on. We will be with you.”
“Do you remember the time he threw a chair at me?“.
“At least you ducked.”
“This is the worst one in a long time.”
“It’s been building up since Torq came into your life.”
“I know.” They were walking down the hall and another smash from Antero’s room had them quickening their pace
Entering the room, she was grateful the crashes were simply a lamp off his nightstand and the ramp Avalanche used to get up on Antero’s bed. She sniffed the air and wanted to screams in frustration
Did the dog shit in here?”
“I can’t believe I’m going to say this, Susana gagged, “but I’ll clean it. Deal with Antero.” Susana walked to the crate, “I thought they weren’t supposed to do this in their crate? She made a retching noise as Amal turned the overhead light on, and it was clear the dog lay in it.

Chapter 120
“Oly fuck,” Alcee groaned as she looked at the bed.
“Tell me he didn’t let the dog up on his bed while it was covered in shit.”
“Tell me he’s not hugging the fucking dog while it’s covered in shit,” Alcee hissed back. “I need to bath them both. She stared at Antero who was chitching the dog around the neck like it was a life preserver and the dog was, if she was judging the expression on her face correctly, smiling at Alcee as if proud of the fact Antero didn’t care she was covered in feces and was hugging her. When she stepped towards Antero he turned his gaze to her in a warning. She kept the ice pack against her mouth so he couldn’t see her fear. Why the hell was she scared of her own son? “Because this entire situation holds the potential to get much worse than it was already.” the voice in her head mocked her.
“Ant, Avalanche had an accident in her crate. We need to get her cleaned up and there is probably poop all over your hands now. Can we put you both in the shower and get you cleaned off?”
