Chapter 131
Alcee stiffened as she heard the stomping of feet coming down the hall while she was getting Antero into his pajamas. The boy wasn’t helping much at all and now the sound of angry footsteps was making his legs weak, and he was wanting to sit on the floor.
Amal immediately went into protection mode and stood up from where she was drying the dog off with a towel, trying as much as she could to get the water off the dog. Torq froze at the sight of Antero being limp with his mother, the scent of the wet dog and the clearly stressed–out face of Alcee.
Amal held up the towel like a shield, “I suggest you measure your words very carefully Don Lozano because this situation is volatile enough without your stamping of the feet like a raging bull.”
Alcee considered the analogy pretty damn accurate as he did appear ready to charge. His face softened as he noted the way Antero wasn’t even looking in his direction.
“Is he okay?” Torq asked looking past Amal to Alcee.
“Does he look okay, Don Lozano?” Amal answered before Alcee could. “If you want to be helpful, your mother is in Antero’s bedroom cleaning shit off the floor and the bed.”
“Shit? He shit?”
Amal closed her eyes and waved to the wet dog, “at the risk of insulting the great Don Lozano, open your fucking eyes.”
“Amal, could you give us a minute,” Torq sighed as he rubbed his chin. “If you could take Avalanche,” he started but then froze as Antero lunged and wrapped around the dog despite only having one leg in his pants and the dog still being wet.
“Torq, whatever shit you feel you need to address right now is going to need to wait,” Alcee spoke softly as she moved from where she’d been sitting on the closed toilet seat to knee behind Antero to get his leg into the pajamas. “My son needs me right now and you are an adult whose emotions are yours to regulate. If you cannot wait until he is settled, then you need to call your therapist and figure out what is wrong in your brain.”
“Why are you being so hateful?”
Her eyes flicked to his furiously, “hateful? I’m not hateful, Torq. I’m setting boundaries and limits and expressing how your feelings are not as important to me right now as my son’s are. You need to give us space if you’re not able to offer any true assistance in this situation.”
“I don’t even know what the hell is going on!” he gave a frustrated bark. “One minute it was a good time and the next the entire evening is shot to fuck, my brother is pissed with me, my mother is pissed with me, my father and sister refused to speak to me before leaving the venue and I don’t even know where they are. You snapped and raged at me and this,” he waved at Antero, “I don’t even understand what this is!”
“This is your son shutting down because you considered him last while planning your big reveal. You failed to consider the great amount of upheaval in his life since you came barreling into it weeks ago. You moved him. You introduced yourself into his life. You got him a dog. You got him grandparents, aunts, and uncles he never knew, and you put them all in his face within minutes of meeting him with no reprieve. You put him in and out of school. You completely uprooted, altered, and amended his entire existence and then you topped it off with a party because it is what tonight was, Torq,” Amal was going off on him and Alcee could only sit and watch as her best friend went to bat for them the way she always did. “You threw a party without considering how it would impact an already overstimulated and overwhelmed child. You dismissed your partners concerns. Then you put your partner in a situation where she needed to defend her family, which heightened Antero’s stress levels because it is not often he sees his mother losing her temper to such a degree that she was forced to smashed a woman’s face into a plate. If you think the child didn’t hear the under–breath comments from ‘Cianna despite Alcee’s warnings, you’re a fool. You chose your brother’s comfort, your brother’s need to feel like he was a vital part of the family, including his mother, over the wellbeing of your wife and child. That is what is going on Don Lozano. You fucked up and you have the audacity to stand here with your fists clenched like the almighty head of the family demanding everyone bow down to you.”
“I’m not asking for anyone to bow down, I wanted an explanation.”
“Should have taken the dog and left, Amal grunted angrily. “This guy is as stupid as he looks. How the fuck Antero is as intelligent as he is with such poor–quality DNA running through his veins blows my mind.”
*Amal, get out before I need to explain to your betrothed why you’re suddenly pitched off the balcony.”
“Dare you to try.” Amal squared off against him, her neck craned as she looked up at him angrily.

Chapter 131
“Amal,” Alcee rested her hand on Antero’s shaking back, “can you find out if Brunella was able to get the bed made up for Antero? Antero, did you want to take Avalanche up for a pee now or do you want me to ask Dad to take her and get you situated in your bed? She will come back and sleep with you in your bed, but she needs to get out for a pee.”
