Sold To the Grizzly Don (Alcee and Bruno) novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140

Alcee wasn’t sure how long she’d slept before she heard whispering and rustling in the room. The room was still dark, so she knew it wasn’t quite

time to get up.

See, Antero, she is right there. Do you want to crawl into bed and sleep with Mama until it’s time to get up.

Through the darkness she could make out the faint outline of Torq standing near the end of the bed with Antero and Avalanche in his arms. Antero was clinging to him. She admitted he was able to hold the pair far more easily than she could. The notion of the dog sleeping in her bed made her want to argue but then when Antero was in this state, she couldn’t refuse him much.

She felt the bed dip on Torq’s side, and he pulled the blanket up. Antero scampered across the bed into the middle and Torq settled Avalanche at his feet on top of the blankets. Torq crawled beside them and slid his arm under the pillows as if hugging them without touching them.

Antero was never a super cuddly boy so when he lifted Alcee’s arm to pull over his shoulder to snuggle into her, she smiled and curled her body around him. She was shocked however when Antero pulled Torq’s arm over them both. He gave a loud sigh as if it were what he needed and promptly closed his eyes.

I dozed off in the chair with my feet up on his bed and I woke up to him fast asleep and wrapped around my feet and calves. I went to reposition him, and he woke up.

She smiled at his words. Go to sleep. She felt his thumb brushing back and forth on her shoulder and her own eyes were growing heavy.

Then almost as quickly as she’d fallen asleep she jumped awake at the sound of a foghorn blaring in her ear. Her eyes flashed open, and she looked around the room and wondered what the hell was going on. She looked around and noted the pale light coming into the bedroom so the sun was starting to rise so she’d slept at least another hour or so but what woke her?

Antero let out a giggle and she looked down to see him staring at Torq’s face. Then the horrible noise which woke her seemed to pull straight from the bottom of the large man’s chest and rumble out his throat in a loud snore.

What the hell is that?she asked incredulously mostly to herself, and Antero turned his head to meet her gaze with a wide grin and wider eyes.

Snores.

I see he snores. He’s never snored like this before. She’d spent many nights sleeping with him in this bed and not once had she heard such a thing.

When he did it again, Avalanche whimpered and moved to the other side of Alcee and sat up in the bed staring at Torq. All three of them were now wildly disrupted by the strange and deep sound being torn from the man’s body on each breath.

Antero giggled again and she shook her head, what do we do, Antero?

Antero’s eyes in the early dawn light were mischievous and he reached out a hand and he pinched Torq’s nose shut. Somehow the action made the sound coming from his mouth louder and she and Antero shared a wideeyed expression of shock before they both giggled.

Alcee reached her hand out and put it over Torq’s mouth and it muffled the next sound but didn’t stop it.

It’s like he swallowed a foghorn.

Antero giggled again at Alcee’s words, snuggling backwards into her embrace. When Torq snored again, Antero stuffed his hand into his own mouth to stop from laughing aloud.

Do you think it hurts his throat?Alcee asked him curiously.

Phone. Record.Antero whispered back.

She was nearly scrambling in the bed to do Antero’s bidding, because despite it being only five in the morning according to the phone charging on her nightstand, probably placed there by one of the twins, he was talking. It might be oneword sentences, but her son was talking and that was a rare event on the morning after a night like the one they’d spent.

She got her phone ready and pressed record and she and Antero waited. Torq didn’t disappoint. The sound which ripped from Torq’s body was otherworldly and his entire body reverberated with it. Antero’s little laughs and Avalanche’s whimper of fear from behind her knees were making this entire thing a strange orchestra but she didn’t stop recording.

This can’t be normal. She zoomed in on his face and caught the drool sliding from the corner of his mouth. He’s drooling Antero. It looks like

when Avalanche drinks her water too fast and it comes out her mouth.

Her words made her little boy break into fits of giggles causing him to shake as he struggled not to wake the sleeping giant.
