Chapter 146
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Torq turned to his brother angrily.
“Nothing. What is wrong with you that you can’t see she i

“Do you judge all women based on your mother’s behavior? asked coldly.
“You bitch.”
“What it!” Torq roared suddenly fed up with this conversation.
Antero’s eyes flicked up from his tablet as if he’d felt the vibration of the man beside him and tugged on Torq’s shirt pulling his headphones off, “Dad are you mad?”
“Lorita,” Torq looked at his sister. “Would you mind taking Antero and Avalanche up to the roof for want you to come back.”

pee. Bring your phone. I’ll text you when I
Lorita nodded and squeezed her mother’s shoulder as she held her hand out to Antero, “come on, big man. You and I will see if we can make Avalanche kick her legs when we rub her belly. Let’s leave the grown–ups to talk.”
Antero nodded and took her hand, “my dad looks mad.”
“Yes.”
“Is it because his brother is a jerk? I hope I don’t have brothers. I want a sister like my dad has you. You’re not mean to my mama. I don’t want brothers because I think they’re mean.”
“Did you know your dad is my brother. He’s not mean at all. Not to me.” Lorita explained as they leashed up Avalanche and headed to the door.
“I didn’t think of that!” Antero commented with a nod.
He walked out and Alcee smile at Torq, “he’s talking again.”
“I noticed.” He smiled back at her and then pulled her close to kiss her forehead. “He’s going to be okay.”
“He is.”
“He’s retarded.”
The statement from the woman had Alcee on her feet and a solid punch landed to Cianna’s nose before anyone could stop her and then she dragged her to her knees by the hair.
“If you want to use such derogatory words ever, to describe my son or any other child, you’d best make sure you don’t let me find out about it.”
Raniero went to grab Alcee, but Torq pushed him back in his seat and gave him a warning glance.
“He is my son. He is my life. He is smart. He is strong. He is sensitive, compassionate, and loving. He is also only five. You look at him and you think he’s older than he is because he’s large like his father but he’s a kindergartner. His brain is growing, and he is growing. Unlike you, stunted in growth, festering in hate and putrid biases. You never were loved Cianna and it’s making you a hateful person. Your parents never loved you. Your lover didn’t love you. Your son started working for the man you felt was your enemy and you doubt his love. It’s made you bitter, resentful, and waspish. I pity you.” She shoved the woman away pushing her to the floor, “you were brought here today because you owe my mother–in–law an apology for your disrespect to her last night. You weren’t brought here to plead your case or justify your hate. You are to apologize and then you are leaving. I don’t want you in my home ever again.” She kicked her with her foot, nudging her towards, Brunella, “Apologize now or the smack to the face is going to be worse. I don’t care how old you are or if you are an elder, she,” she pointed to Brunella, “is the woman my son calls Nonna, and she is special and everything you are not. You owe her respect. You destroyed her marriage. You ruined her son’s family home. You do not get to act like a queen when you are a homewrecking bitch. Apologize now for your behavior last night! Now!”
“Torq!” Raniero gasped. “She’s sixty years old.”
“She looks like she can take it, Torq said with a shrug, “she’s lucky it’s Alcee making her apologize because it wasn’t my first choice.”
Raniero paled at the words, “she is my mother.”
Chapter 146
“She is poison. She is poison and it is affecting you and your ability to be clear–headed and smart. You are thinking of the shit she’s been feeding you for years and letting it linger on your palate like it’s caviar. Shit is shit, Raniero. You can’t butter it up to be something more than the shit it
is.”
“My son should have been Don!” Cianna screamed. “Corrado never loved her. He never wanted to marry her. He wanted to marry me and for my son to be Don someday. Not her. Never her.”
“You are delusional. You do realize even as he was dying he was upset Cicciu was with my mother, and she moved on. He never loved you. Ever.” Torq waved at Tito, “I never wanted to do this but here we are.”
S
Tito moved from behind the couch and held up his phone. It displayed an old video from Corrado, clearly much younger Corrado was sitting at a table with a few of his friends and Torq and his grandfather.
Corrado’s voice rang out.
than when he died.
“Do you think I don’t know how much I fucked up all those years ago? I fucking traded a diamond for a goddamned piece of glass. I don’t want to lose my seat as head of this family when you pass Papa because I made a stupid mistake. I own the
e mistake. I know what I did was wrong. I had an incredible wife who I grew to love, and I ruined it for the risk of some forbidden pussy. Christ almighty, Cianna’s voice go
goes through my ears every time I hear it. If I could put a fucking bullet in her head and be done with it I would but she is my damn penance to pay for fucking up. hate her. I hate her with everything in me. She is the reason everything went to shit. I beg of you, do not take away my birthright.”
