Chapter 159
Torq looked impatiently at the desk he’d set up in his office for Alcee. It included all of her work needs and noise–cancelling headphones for when she found him annoying because he knew it was going to happen. He simply wanted her close to him. He’d messaged her twenty minutes ago to see him.
The potentially catastrophic outcome of his behavior over the last few days had been avoided but the sense of foreboding hadn’t left him yet. He was falling hard for Alcee Mariani and losing her was not an option. He needed to spend as much time as he could with her before she disappeared on him because he wasn’t stupid enough to believe he was good enough for her.
She was heads and tails better than him. She was smart, resourceful, an incredible mother and stunningly beautiful. Her messy hair and glasses look she wore around the office was enough to make him hard enough to crack. Yet, she still wanted him and wanted to be with him. Insecurity was a new feeling for him, but it all centered around her. He didn’t deserve her.
Now though he was missing her and he wanted her. Visions of the things they could on both desks were rattling through his brain.
He looked up as Genevra shoved into his office without knocking. He was about to tell her off when she gasped.
“Why is nobody answering their phones? I called you. I called my brother. I called Kylen. None of you fucking answer.”
“What’s wrong?” He immediately got up from his desk and rounded to her.
“Alcee,” she gasped out, “her weirdo brother pushed her into a car. I tried to call you, but you didn’t fucking answer.”
“What?” he grabbed his phone and held it up to her. No incoming calls on the display.
She held her phone up which showed multiple calls going out.
“Someone is fucking with our cell service?” he was almost running towards Kylen’s office.
“Alcee left our lunch early and I remembered as soon as she got up, I forgot to send down a work order for my second monitor. I thought I would walk back with her. She walks stupid fast, and I was running to chase after her and,” she kept talking as he shoved Kylen’s door open with a clatter startling the man, “I didn’t even catch up to her. She was right outside the building and her brother, the one who was here with their father that day, pulled a gun, threatened to shoot her two guards, and forced her into the car. I was still too far away but one of the guards started to move and Mariani was going to shoot him. Alcee stopped it from happening and got into the car.”
Kylen was immediately pulling up surveillance outside the building. “Why didn’t you call? Why didn’t her guards call it in?”
“Something is wrong with the cell service.” Torq grabbed Genevra’s phone and tossed it with his onto Kylen’s desk. “She called me. She called you. She called Bastiano. None of us got the calls. Why?”
*Shouldn’t we go find her?” Genevra was tugging his arm to pull him towards the door. Let’s go to Mariani’s and get her back.”
“We can’t go in blind, brat,” Kylen muttered not even looking up at her.
*Storm the place. Get a hundred people and go rescue her. She doesn’t want to be with her horrible brother and his family. They’re not good people.”
“We’re not good people,” Kylen countered. “Go down to Bastiano’s office. He’s there with Tito. Get them back here. I can’t get my message to reach him. Then go down to Tank’s office and tell him to get his fucking ass up here. How the hell does an entire building of people using cell phones not notice their phones aren’t working?”
Bastiano stepped into the office, his head down and his face confused staring at his phone, “hey, Kylen is your phone working? Mine seems to be frozen.” He looked around the room, “what’s going on?”
“Mercurio Mariani took Alcee as she was coming back from lunch.” Torq grunted angrily as he began pacing circles. “He did something to our cell service, I don’t understand how it’s fucking possible given this is supposed to be the most secure building in the entire fucking state of New York!” he roared the last part before plunging his fist into the drywall beside Kylen’s desk.
“He’d need to physically put something in the building to make it happen, Was he even in the building?” Kylen growled as he motioned to the
