Chapter 53
She turned and shoved his chest hard, “did it ever occur to you I didn’t want a dog? Torg, my life is insane as it is. There are psychology appointments, school appointments, OT appointments and doctors appointments. I work twelve–hour days several days a week. I’m fucking tired and you now added a puppy to it. Not simply any puppy. No. You couldn’t bring home a fucking chihuahua. You brought home a mix of two of the biggest breeds in the world. Do you know the work this is going to entail? Did you forget you are the Don of the Lozano family? This means you travel all over the fucking world. You’re not going to be home every single night. Do you know who will be? Me. I will be home. Dealing with a five–year–old boy who frequently either shuts down or has outbursts and a dog which will eventually outweigh me. You didn’t think it through. You didn’t talk to me. You made a massive decision without consulting me and you think you can come in here, grab my ass, kiss my neck, and promise me pizza and I’m going to forgive you?”
“When you put it like this,” he frowned at her.
“I’m putting it like this. You made a massive family decision one day after becoming part of our family and you didn’t even consider me or my feelings on the matter.”
“Alcee, I’m sorry. I really didn’t think you would be upset. There will always be someone around to help you. You are not alone with Antero any longer. I’m here. When I need to travel for work, unless I’m going to do a run or a job, I would very much like for you and Antero to be with me and we will bring Avalanche with us when we can.”
“He has school.”
*Understood. But when he’s in school, I’m going to try my best to be home more than away and when I can’t, I will make sure there is a full team here to help. All of his appointments, I want to be part of All of his therapy, I want to be part of. I can’t do those things if I’m on the road all the Time, Alcee. I’m not going to be an absentee father or husband. I’m going to be here.”
“This isn’t the point.”
“Well, I apologize for not talking to you first. I didn’t think you’d be upset at all. Antero told me you used to take the bunny home from school, and it was fine.”
“Once! I was terrified the thing was going to croak the entire time it was home with us because of that cuteness aggression thing!” She rubbed her head frustratedly.
He approached her again and rested his palms on her shoulders, “Alcee, I am sorry. You are right. I should have talked to you first and gauged your opinion. I promise moving forward I will never bring a giant puppy home without asking your permission. He looked in the direction of the sound of Antero laughing followed by a barking puppy. “Do I need to go tell him we’re taking it back?”
Akee looked him in the face, drew her fist back and punched him in the balls. He doubled over gasping for breath. “Next time it will be your
threat.”
She marched off, hopping into her sweats as she did, Entering the hall, she was right in time to see the dog piddle in the middle of the floor while Antero made wide eyes at Aleer and then the dog. This day was getting better and better.
