The three C-rank elites and their griffins never stood a chance. The moment the searing breath engulfed them, two of the griffins disintegrated mid-air, their divine hides no match for the concentrated wrath of a beast born of flame and ancient magic.
The knights upon them screamed as their enchanted armor melted like wax, their radiant weapons clattering uselessly to the scorched earth below. The third knight managed to raise a shimmering holy barrier, but even that cracked and shattered within seconds, leaving him tumbling to the ground in a plume of fire.
The entire group was severely injured and disoriented, which provided Damon the perfect opportunity to rake up some high-level kills. He silently appeared behind the first C-rank powerhouse and used a crimson lance to strike the guy while he was still down from the wyrm’s attack.
The birds were also not let off, as griffins were borderline C-rank beasts, which had rich blood essence, probably with a lot of boosts. Damon drained them all dry as much as he could and took a quick look at the gains. It was a set of passive skills and some stat boosts. Nothing game-changing.
He clicked his tongue, closed the screen, and then once again appeared in front of the wyrm to taunt it again. Not that he needed to. The wyrm already had its eyes locked onto him.
Naturally, the beast knew it had been used, and it was not very pleased.
It spewed out fire left and right, even predicting where Damon would appear next. If it were not for his newly acquired divine and holy skills, he would have already been smacked to death. Using this strategy once again was also a pipe dream.
He could fool the draconic beast once, but to try and fool it more than once? Might as well give up. But that did not mean he was giving up on his goal to kill the damn thing today.
As he kited the wyrm around the battlefield, barely escaping death every second, Ellora and the other vampire NPCs were pelting attacks on the bastard.
Ellora’s voice rang loudly from a distance. "Blood acolyte, I must hand it to you. You are a true monster. You dared to use a wyrm as a puppet to do your bidding? I applaud your courage. It is making me wet in all kinds of places."
Damon almost stumbled, hearing the old hag. Please don’t put images in my head! He screamed inwardly as he dodged a shockwave from the wyrm.
And thankfully, the most important development happened on time.
It looked like Damon’s small play was enough to finally turn the tide in their favor once and for all. The blood hall started pulsing with energy in the background, and ripples of power emanated from the building as a huge eye materliazed in the middle of the city.
The massive blood-red eye opened wide in the sky, like a slumbering god finally peeking through the veil.
Everything on the battlefield froze for a second, as if even time itself was momentarily stunned. The sky darkened, the light flickered, and the oppressive aura that followed pressed down on all beings, be they knight, vampire, beast, or wyrm.
Damon grinned. Finally, he thought. The Blood Sovereign’s gaze has fallen upon the battlefield. The back up was coming.
Azuna as well hit the ground running. The world spirit instantly sensed the chaotic vibe of the battlefield and she seemed to know what she was getting into. Without Damon having to tell her twice, a powerful blood orb started appearing in the palm of her hands.
At the same time several blood chains erupted from the ground, partly made of blood and partly made of earth. They rose like unyielding snakes from the ground and lashed toward the wyrm. They were bindings woven with the will of the land.
The wyrm snarled in rage as it opened its maw to unleash another round of fire breath at the earthen chains, wanting to melt them all down to nothing. Its gaze then flickered to the crimson lances coming at it.
However, before it could deal with either of these, its danger senses picked up another attack which was far more deadly. The wyrm narrowed its eyes as it locked onto Azuna and came at her with its claws spitting out fire.
Azuna didn’t flinch. Her red hair fluttered in the wind as she stood there without a hint of fear in her eyes, the blood orb in her hand continuing to grow. Then she moved.
