He didn’t have the final say, even if it was his shop.

On his left was an elderly man, and on his right was a middle–aged one–so how could he be the one to decide?
Of course, there was some intent to shirk responsibility in his words, but the person in front of him clearly didn’t understand.
“Help me,” she pleaded, staring intently at Jeremy. She repeated the words as if she was certain he could influence Johan’s decision.
Lena tilted her head up to look at him. From this angle, her eyes seemed to shine brightly. She thought to herself, “The double eyelid surgery earlier this year was definitely worth it.”
Unfortunately, Jeremy was a straightforward guy–and only sixteen years old at that.
Whenever he played games with female university students, the moment they heard his age, they would call him “kiddo.”
So, naturally, he couldn’t read between the lines at all.
Jeremy averted his gaze, his expression remaining impassive.
Lena’s expression stiffened for a moment, disbelief flashing across her face as she wondered, ‘Didn’t he have a thing for me?
Why isn’t he reacting at all?‘
Johan could no longer hold back. He took a deep breath, his face darkening like the bottom of a burnt pot as he stated, “Pay her wages.
“You don’t need to come back anymore. Consider the matter of you saving my wife settled.
Initially, he had wanted to call the police to handle this.
If a client canceled the deal because of this dish, Ferry House’s reputation would take a massive hit
That was something far worse than simply losing money.
But Lena wasn’t someone who could take responsibility for this.
Even if she pooled together every last cent she had, it wouldn’t even be enough to buy back the snakes she had let loose.
As such, Johan never expected her to compensate them anyway.
Considering that she had at least called emergency services in time to save Joanne a few days ago, Johan was already being as merciful as possible by only firing her.
Right now, all he cared about was making a proper snake stew. If the collaboration went through, perhaps the client would be more understanding, and they could minimize the damage from this incident.
Anyone with half a brain would realize how lenient he was being with Lena.
But she herself remained oblivious.
The moment she heard she was getting fired, Lena panicked.
But amid her anxiety, anger, and resentment welled up inside her as she thought, ‘If I hadn’t called for an ambulance last week, that elderly woman who suffered a stroke might have ended up with permanent damage due to delayed treatment.

Chapter 199
And yet, despite such a huge favor, this family only gave me a janitor’s job–something I was already unhappy about!

Not to mention, this janitor position required me to work late at night. Even if it was only three hours a day, a night shift was still inhumane! The truth is, they never saw me as their savior.
They just brushed me off with the hardest and most exhausting job they could find!
And now, just because I let three snakes go, they’re using it as an excuse to kick me out?
Those snakes had developed spiritual awareness–they were Snake Gods! They weren’t meant to be eaten! If anyone ate them, they’d suffer divine retribution.
I was trying to save everyone here!
Lena strongly suspected that Johan was doing this on purpose.
He didn’t even want to let her keep the worst, most exhausting job, so he deliberately made a fuss about the snakes to drive her away!
Thinking back to the reasons he had just given in his outburst, Lena let out a cold laugh as she silently reasoned, ‘How could a million–dollar deal be canceled over a single dish?
Do they think I’m poor and clueless about how rich people do business?
A deal this big isn’t child’s play. At the end of the day, this is all just an excuse to kick me out!
Everything–the snakes they kept in the pond last night, the reason they called me in today—it was all a setup by this old man to target me!
Thinking she had uncovered the truth, Lena’s mind whirled in a storm of anger as she fumeu
is outrageous!
This old man just doesn’t want to be seen as ungrateful, so he’s framing me for everything!
No wonder they all ignored me when I suggested showcasing my cooking skills earlier. Turns out they’re all in on it!
She cast a sharp glance at the two snakes being handled by the workers, a flicker of fury flashing through her eyes.
Standing her ground, she turned to Johan and snapped, “You don’t need to go through the trouble of kicking me out–I’ll leave on my own!
“But you must let those two snakes go right now!*
The moment she finished speaking, the two men by the pond swiftly decapitated the snakes.
Lena’s eyes widened in shock, and her entire body frozen in place as if she had turned to stone.
These two men were clearly experienced. Their movements were clean and methodical–decapitate, remove the innards, skin, section….
After staring blankly for a few seconds, Lena let out a sharp shriek, “Are you all insane?*
Looking at the people around her, all of whom were completely unfazed, her eyes blazed with fury.
She trembled with rage as she exclaimed, “Do you not realize that killing snakes brings divine retribution? The Snake Gods will not forgive you murderers! You’ll all be cursed!”
Even after saying so much, she still didn’t feel satisfied. Clenching her fists, she lost all sense of reason as she blurted, “Everyone here will suffer retribution–including that child in your arms! All because of your—”

Before she could finish her sentence, someone abruptly cut her off.
“Shut up!”
“Shut up!”

Two voices rang out in unison. Their expressions darkened at the same time, their gazes ice–cold as they locked onto her
Lena was caught off guard and instinctively fell silent. Though the anger hadn’t yet faded from her face, she stood there frozen, looking rather ridiculous.
Standing before two men who towered over her, a natural sense of fear crept up her spine. Their eyes were as frigid as frost and snow, making her shudder involuntarily.
She didn’t dare continue speaking. Her face shifted through several emotions before she finally bit her lip, feeling utterly wronged as she thought, ‘Why are these two men treating me like this?
Two grown men ganging up on a defenseless woman–is that something to be proud of?
‘Don’t they have wives and mothers at home? Do they speak to the women in their families with such a harsh tone too?
And to think I actually thought they were dignified men earlier–turns out they’re nothing more than hypocrites in sheep’s clothing!
When she looked up and saw the little girl in the man’s arms, her heart welled up with an inexplicable sense of disgust.
Even though the child was undeniably cute, she felt no affection for her whatsoever.
At the same time, she couldn’t help but pity her.
With a father and brother who have no respect for women, this child’s life at home must be miserable.
Just imagining such a suffocating family environment is unbearable.
But no matter how much she resented them in her heart, she no longer dared to utter another word of malediction.
Instead, she stiffened, her voice barely above a whisper. “T–There really are Snake Gods…”
She contemplated, ‘Even if what I just said was a bit impulsive, does that child bear no blame at all?
“She’s so young, yet she has no kindness in her heart.

‘Dressed in fine clothes, she’s obviously from a wealthy family–so why didn’t she try to save the snakes?
“Am I really the only one in this world who cares about their lives?‘
