"Still nothing, huh..."
Nux muttered with a somewhat disappointed sigh as he stared at two unconscious beings hovering in front of him.
They were Neremoth and Zarveth.
Both of them were unconscious because Nux willed it so. Right now, Nux was reading their memories to figure something out.
From his sigh, however, it was clear that things didn’t go his way.
It all began after he defeated Neremoth and devoured him. He had already spent 30 minutes fighting him, so he thought he might as well read his memories while he was at it.
He had checked that Sharnoth and his wives were getting along well. Yes, those women were teasing Sharnoth to the point the poor woman had no choice but to cover her face with her hands, constantly muttering, "That’s not me," but honestly, Nux was already used to this sight by now.
Those women were bona fide bullies. They bullied every single woman they met. What’s worse?
When that woman joined their group, she became an active bully as well.
Sometimes, Nux actually wondered whose influence made things turn out this way, but soon, he intelligently stopped wondering about it.
There was no point in monitoring a woman’s mind—even if he had all the information in the Universe, he knew he still would not understand it.
In the end, he just shook his head and sighed. Yes, Sharnoth was being bullied, but this also meant that she was accepted by the others. Nux could already see her getting along with the rest of his wives, and the thought made him smile.
For now, however, he focused on what was in front of him. He closed his eyes and started reading Neremoth’s memories.
Now that he had no one to save or a Universe to complete, his mind was free, so the entire process only took a minute. But after that long minute, Nux’s face turned solemn as he noticed something.
Neremoth...
In all his life, he had never met Darkness Infinity even once.
Which was quite surprising if one thought about it. Neremoth was one of the strongest beings in the Supreme World of Darkness—an Eternal. The number of beings he was actually wary of, other than the Infinities, could be counted on one hand.
He was that strong, and he had lived for hundreds of thousands of years, and yet...
He still hadn’t seen the Darkness Infinity.
Yes, he received their orders. He, of course, fulfilled the said order and reported it, but never once did he get to see them.
Every time the Darkness Infinity wanted something, Neremoth would ’know’ on his own and act on it. Once he was done, he would compile a report and leave it wherever he completed it, and in a few days, the said report would disappear.
Everything just... happened on its own.
There were no messengers, no building where he was supposed to report to—nothing. Even back when he was a child and was being trained together with others, the Infinity never came personally. They were taught by others.
Honestly, Neremoth did not know a single thing about Infinity. Heck, he didn’t even know his name. He just knew one thing—
That Lord Infinity was strong, and he was supposed to respect and fear him.
And this feeling inside him was so strong that it was quite surprising. It made Nux wonder what gave Neremoth the courage to betray the Infinity he respected and feared so much and join Zarveth to come after him.
When he looked at it, it seemed like he only did it because he was bored. The reasoning was something similar along the lines of wanting to do something great. The only difference was, unlike Zarveth, who did it because of his endless thirst for knowledge, Neremoth just craved power.
Yes, he respected and feared the Infinity, but his greed for power was stronger. He wanted to devour the Anomaly and get stronger than the Infinities and make them grovel under his feet.
Also, the fact that the Anomaly was a mere Primordial who was still wet behind his ears motivated him as well.
If a Primordial Anomaly caused so much destruction throughout the Universe, he wanted to see what he could do as the Anomaly.
It was quite strange actually. Nux noticed the connection between a few of Neremoth’s memories was weak. With all these doubts in his mind, he began reading Zarveth’s memories. He had only read the part where he fought Sharnoth, but now, he was going through his entire life, and the more he read it, the stronger his doubts got—
By the end—
He understood.
It wasn’t that these beings didn’t know anything about the Infinities or had never seen them, it was just that...
Everything they did, their memories were manipulated, and they were made to forget about it without them realizing it.
They didn’t just ’know’ what their respected Infinity wanted from them—they were told that, and the order was instilled into them. This memory disappeared.
Even Zarveth, who had witnessed the Supreme Battle between the Five Supreme Worlds with his own eyes, was no exception.
In that battle, he remembered everything about Zylarith and how he faced the four Infinities, but the Infinities, in his mind—they were just different ’lights.’
Black.
Golden.
