Inside, Rayne looked at Julian.
"What should we do?" she asked, looking around at everyone's frozen faces.
Julian thought for a moment before looking at her with a concerned look, "Well, it may be ahead of schedule, but this is what we are here for. Are you ready?"
Rayne looked at him and nodded, "I'm ready. Let's go."
While the rest of the people were still frozen in shock, Rayne and Julian walked outside with their backpacks.
The leader let out a hearty laugh, seeing them come out with their heads lowered.
"Good! At least some of you know how to listen. Since you're the first ones, I'll let you sit together in the car. That way you can hold hands if you want, hahah!"
Rayne kept her head lowered, but the next moment, two men came over and forcefully grabbed their backpacks out of their hands.
"Sorry, it's just that we can't have you potentially carrying any dangerous weapons. Someone could get hurt," he said with an evil grin.
Rayne pretended to be scared and hid behind Julian until they were tossed into one of the cars towards the front.
"Sit here quietly. We'll head out to your new home once the rest of your buddies come out," one of the men said before slamming the door.
Rayne took the moment of them being left alone to hand Julian a small foldable knife and a packet of strong painkillers.
"I don't know what will happen in the future, so hold on to them. Once we get closer to Damien's base, I'll hand you anything you need.
Julian nodded. A small pocket knife wouldn't raise as much suspicion as a gun in the event that they were searched. It was also smaller and easier to hide.
He also accepted the small packet of painkillers, thinking that Rayne was adorable when she thought of him.
Only she would be able to think of something like this.
A small smile appeared on his face as he reached out and squeezed her hand.
"Thank you, love. I feel a lot safer knowing that you're here with me."
Rayne blushed, nodding her head. This might be their last moment alone together for a long time. Everything ahead of them was uncertain, so she quietly leaned her head on his shoulder to make the most out of their time together.
Outside, the leader was starting to get impatient. Only Rayne and Julian had walked out of the police station so far, and his five-minute grace period was quickly coming to an end.
"Listen up, fools. My patience is wearing thin. I highly suggest you come out on your own, before I send my men inside to drag you out. Anyone found hiding after time's up will be killed on the spot!"
This threat finally got the people inside to scramble. The majority of them started to run around and pack as many of their things as possible before walking out to the cars.
Similarly to what happened to Rayne and Julian, the men all took their things away before throwing them inside of various cars.
After the majority of the people were loaded in, the leader sent in a team of people to search the police station for stragglers.
Although they were originally located on the southern outskirts of the city, it took them a few hours of driving before they entered the heart of the city.
Rayne and Julian watched their surroundings intently, trying to commit as much to memory as possible.
When the cars finally drove into a parking garage, Rayne's eyes widened. She immediately recognized this area! If she wasn't mistaken, this parking garage belonged to the hospital where she woke up from her coma!
She abruptly turned her head to look at Julian, conveying her shock through her facial expression. He returned her look with wide eyes, clearly just as surprised.
The car drove down the parking garage, into the underground parking, but as they reached what should have been the very bottom, a large metal garage door opened up and revealed an additional section that went even farther down.
Julian's mind raced. He couldn't believe that Damien's secret base was right under his nose this whole time.
When did Damien have ties to this hospital? Did the hospital even know of the existence of his base?
His mind raced as he continued to look out the window.
They drove down another three levels until all of the cars finally parked on the final level.
The leader stepped out of his vehicle and looked around.
"Welcome to your new home!"
