Hansen was missing his grandson, so he called his daughter-in-law. “Mia, how come you haven’t brought Henry over lately?”
“His dad took him to taekwondo. He’s still in class.”
That afternoon, Andre brought Henry home, and then Mia took him over to the Cedillo family for dinner.
At the table, everyone kept piling food onto Henry’s plate. He sat between his parents, fumbling with his chopsticks until he just gave up and started grabbing food with his hands. When the soup spoon didn’t scoop enough, he just lifted the bowl with both hands and slurped it down.
The more Hansen watched, the happier he got. On Sunday, Hansen wanted to take Henry out, but Andre said, “I’ve got to take him to the climbing gym in the morning, and in the afternoon we’re seeing my father-in-law.”
Weekends were always packed for Henry.
The next morning, just as expected, the whole family headed to the climbing gym. Andre played with Henry inside while Mia chatted with Annie out front.
Sometimes, a message from her sister would pop up: “Mia, are you coming home on Wednesday?” They made plans to spend Wednesday night at the Cedillo place.
Mia asked, “Are you busy tomorrow? I’m free in the afternoon and want to visit Leo.”
Molly replied, “You bringing the kid?”
“Yeah. Leo hasn’t seen these two in a while—he misses them.”
At home, Molly munched on roast chicken. “Then wait for me outside my office after work tomorrow. We’ll go together.”
Soon after, Molly was gone.
Over at the Byrne house, Wayne stood on a chair, hands pressed to the table, watching his mom eat roast chicken. The second she got up to grab another takeout box, Wayne pounced!
Molly came back through the yard carrying bubble tea, only to hear crying from the living room. She froze, then rushed inside. “Sweetie!”
