They saw that the handmade ice cream shop on the first floor had launched new flavors.
She said, “It’s a pity I have my period, otherwise I’d really want to try the new flavors.”
This reminded Josephine of how Patricia’s mother–in–law had asked her to prepare for
pregnancy.
She asked, “Are you and Shane planning to have a baby?”
Patricia shook her head and replied, “I won’t have a child for Shane.”
Josephine was surprised.
But Patricia didn’t say anything more.
She didn’t press further either.
The two of them went to a clothing store, and Patricia helped Josephine choose which color
looked best.
A few wealthy ladies entered the store.
The sales assistants apologized to Josephine and Patricia, then hurried over to serve the
ladies.
Josephine didn’t mind and continued browsing on her own, until she heard a voice:
“Isn’t this Mrs. Hayden? Helena, Josephine is here.”
Josephine reflexively rolled her eyes.
She thought to herself, ‘Should have checked the calendar before going out–ran into a wretched woman.‘
Patricia whispered, “Josie, maybe we should try another store.”
Josephine wasn’t the type to run away, but with an interview coming up, she didn’t want to get entangled with Helena and risk her luck.

She nodded, took Patricia’s hand, and was about to leave when one of the ladies reached out
to block their way.
Josephine noticed that the lady had a Novo Tech super watch on her wrist.
She looked back and realized that these ladies were the same ones Helena had tried to cozy up to at the Sylphoire private dinner.
And each of them wore a super watch on their wrist.
The super watch was a high–tech projection watch, capable of replacing a phone and connecting to all kinds of devices.
Wilfred and her team had developed it together, and only 100 units had been produced so
far.
But even the pre–orders alone had already exceeded a million units.
Its marketing strategy was like a crown–wearing it made you feel superior to others.
She had wanted to give one to Patricia, but Wilfred said that even officials who had ordered one still had to wait.
Yet Helena could casually hand out several as gifts…
A wave of frustration welled up in Josephine’s heart.
Today, Helena was wearing a custom Sylphoire waist dress, the soft, flowing fabric shimmering luxuriously under the lights.
“Josephine, it’s been a few days since we last met. I actually missed
you.”
Josephine loathed Helena’s fake friendliness, so she held Patricia’s hand and walked away from the other side.
The lady who had blocked them, Mrs. Vaughn, spoke up.
“Now that Helena is still willing to call you Josephine, that’s already giving you face. Why don’t you appreciate it?”
Another lady chimed in, “Still think you’re Wilfred’s precious darling? Who are you trying to impress with that arrogance? You’re just a stray dog.”
“The clothes you’re wearing must be hand–me–downs, right? Only beggars wear other

people’s clothes.”
The ladies covered their mouths and snickered.
The super watches sensed their excitement and projected an emoji of someone laughing uproariously.
Josephine didn’t want to make things worse, so she forced herself to endure it.
Patricia knew Josephine’s temper best–she always settled scores on the spot.
Seeing her swallow her pride and endure humiliation now made Patricia’s heart ache.
Josephine pulled Patricia along to leave.
Mrs. Vaughn laughed behind them, “The stray dog is tucking its tail and running away.”
Josephine still didn’t say a word, but Patricia couldn’t take it anymore.
She, who never raised her voice, was now red–faced, her chest heaving rapidly.
“Mrs. Vaughn, Josie hasn’t done anything to you, has she? Don’t you think you’re going too
far?”
Mrs. Vaughn shot Patricia an annoyed glare.
Josephine quickly pulled Patricia behind her to protect her.
Mrs. Vaughn deliberately provoked them, saying, “You two really are close as sisters. What a coincidence, Helena and I are the same. Helena is simple and pure, so what’s wrong with me standing up for her?”
Helena looked at Mrs. Vaughn with gratitude and emotion, her eyes brimming with tears, making her seem especially moving.
“You are just… just unreasonable,” Patricia stammered, not good at arguing.
Josephine stepped forward.
Her expression calm, she circled Mrs. Vaughn, looking her up and down.
“Mrs. Vaughn, you look so elegant and noble, dressed head to toe in custom Sylphoire, with any random accessory worth my annual salary. It’s only natural you look down on me.”
Mrs. Vaughn sneered, “At least you know your place.”

Josephine’s expression didn’t change: “As far as I know, Mrs. Vaughn, you’re the director of a TV station, with a base salary of less than ten thousand, and your husband works at the command center… Can your salaries really support all these luxury brands? I’m genuinely curious where your money comes from?”
