Chapter77
The third time, he said he didn’t know.
Wilfred’s patience ran out, and just as he was about to lose his temper, Natalia told him.
“Uncle, Josie is in danger. My dad went to save her.”
Josephine is in danger?
Wilfred was visibly flustered.
He turned and said to his bodyguards, “All of you, come with me.”

Inside the lounge.
The pain in Joshua’s lower body eased a little.
He braced himself on the carpet and struggled to get up.
“You withered slut, you still dare to kick me? I’m going to ruin you today.”
Joshua unbuckled his belt, took off his pants, and walked over to Josephine.
He kicked Josephine hard in the waist.
Josephine didn’t react at all.
Joshua squatted down, greedily staring at Josephine.
Even with her eyes closed, she looked like a narcissus blooming above clear water.
He reached out and pinched Josephine’s face.
Her little face didn’t look like it had much flesh, but it felt unbelievably good to the touch.
And those lips, so soft and moist–playing with them would be such a thrill…
Joshua undid Josephine’s jacket, grabbed the collar of her tank top with both hands, and tore it open with a ripping sound.

Her chest, wrapped in a bra, was beautifully shaped.
Under the lounge’s lights, the white was blinding, the red maddening.
Joshua’s blood surged with excitement.
His right hand reached out, just about to touch when-
The door slammed into the wall with a loud bang.
Startled in the middle of his crime, Joshua’s right hand froze, hovering over Josephine’s chest.
He turned around in terror.
He saw a man’s calm, expressionless eyes sweep over the glass window covered in handprints and land on Josephine.
Beneath the silver–rimmed glasses, a hint of red instantly appeared at the corner of his eye, hiding a bloodthirsty rage.
Zachery strode forward with swift steps.
Joshua stammered anxiously, “This is a mis…”
Zachery lifted his foot and kicked Joshua hard in the chest.
Joshua felt as if his ribs had snapped, the pain piercing to the bone.
A liquid welled up in his throat; he opened his mouth and spat out a mouthful of fresh blood…
Zachery crouched down, looking at Josephine, a flash of pain flickering in his eyes.
He buttoned up Josephine’s little suit, one button at a time, gently picked her up and placed her on the sofa, then brushed aside the hair that had fallen over her forehead, tenderly caressing her pale cheek.
Then, he slowly straightened up and took off the watch Josephine had given him.
He glanced back and walked toward Joshua.
His face, half–lit and half–shadowed in the light, was expressionless, yet Joshua felt as if a snake was crawling up his back.
“D–Don’t come any closer! Do you know who I am? Do you
know my
my aunt…”

Zachery paid no attention to what Joshua was saying.
He grabbed Joshua by the hair and slammed his head against the wall with a thud.
“You drugged her?”
Thud, another blow.
“Who gave you the guts to touch her?”
Thud!
“Did you only use your hands on her?”
Thud!
“Did you keep your mouth shut?”
Zachery’s tone was gentle, but every movement of his hands was filled with patience.
He picked up the vase on the table and smashed it forcefully on the ground.
Picking up a sharp shard, he drew it down Joshua’s nose bridge with a ripping sound, all the way to his philtrum.
A straight, gaping wound split open, blood gushing out…
When Wilfred arrived, he saw large patches of blood staining the carpet.
The male reporter who had interviewed him that morning was now lying disheveled on the floor, clutching his nose and mouth, wailing miserably.
Zachery wiped his hands clean and picked up the unconscious Josephine.
Wilfred’s mind went blank for a moment.
The male reporter had done something to Josephine…
Josephine seemed trapped in a nightmare, unable to wake, her head tossing restlessly.
“Honey!”
Wilfred had no idea what he was shouting.
He walked forward nervously, trying to snatch Josephine from Zachery’s arms.

Zachery tightened his hold on Josephine. “Mr. Hayden, are you really unaware of why someone dared to humiliate her like this?”
A guilty look flashed across Wilfred’s face.
It was because he had let Josephine bear a bad reputation, making her unemployable, that she ended up in such a situation.
But after all, this was a matter between husband and wife. What right did Zachery have to interfere?
“Dr. Maynard, I appreciate your help with Josephine, but she’s my wife. What are you doing holding her like that?”
Zachery refused to let go of Josephine. Looking down, he saw her mouth moving, trying hard to make a sound.
He spoke very softly, as if afraid of startling Josephine.
