Aria’s POV

“M–Marry you?” I stammered.

“Yes.” His hand brushed against my cheek, his gaze steady and serious. “I know where the registry office is. We can go right now and before midnight you’ll become my wife. Then your status will officially change from commoner to noble. Nobles can’t be punished for suing other nobles. You’ll be safe, Aria.”

“B–but I can’t marry you… that’s insane…” I murmured.

“Why not?” he pressed. “You’re still hung up on that bastard Grayson? Wake up. He couldn’t even protect you from his psycho ex. You really think he’s gonna marry you and give you a family?”

Yes, I knew that. Things between Grayson and me had gone way too far off track to ignore anymore.

But even so… I never imagined being with someone else.

“I can’t let you do this,” I said, breathing heavily. “Marrying me just to save my life–it’s not fair to you. You deserve to marry someone you truly love-”

“You are the girl I love!” Zane said. He grabbed my hands, his eyes burning into mine. “Why else would I do all this? Why else would I fight for an Alpha position I don’t even care about before? Every single day since we were separated, I’ve been thinking about you. So tell me, Aria…have you thought about me like that?”

I froze and looked away. He’s too good. I didn’t want to lie to him.

When I didn’t answer, he let out a soft, bitter laugh. “That’s okay. I know the man you love isn’t me right now. But we can get married first and then fall in love later. You’ll see, I’m the one who’s right for you.”

My head spun. I don’t even know what to say in reply.

Because everything felt so goddamn unreal.

I was just an ordinary girl. Falling in love with an Alpha Grayson like Grayson was already a miracle. And now it was happening again? Zane came from one of the most powerful packs, a noble through and through. He used to only date models and high–born women, never once thinking about marriage.

And now he wanted to marry me. An ordinary girl like me.

“What’s on your mind right now? Tell me,” he asked hoarsely, cupping my face.

“I–I don’t know… my mind’s a mess right now…” I whispered.

“Then don’t think. Just say yes,” he said softly.

He leaned in, holding my cheek to kiss me. We were so close. I could smell his intoxicating scent. It caught me off guard–I didn’t even have time to move away.

But before his lips could touch mine, a loud crash exploded behind us. The bar door was kicked open with brutal force.

Zane froze. A chill shot straight down my spine. I turned around, horrified.

“ZANE ELROD a furious roar thundered in the room.

Before I could react, I was yanked out of Zane’s arms. Grayson’s fist swung hard, slamming into Zane’s face and knocking him backward.

“NO” I screamed. “Stop it! Don’t hurt him, Grayson!”

He didn’t listen. He grabbed Zane by the collar and punched him again. I tried to run to them, but one of Grayson’s guards caught me from behind and dragged me away.

“You fucking son of a bitch,” Grayson snarled. “I told you already. Touch my woman again and I’ll fucking kill you!”

Zane spat out a mouthful of blood and shoved him back. “Aria isn’t your woman. You cold–hearted monster-

The two guys fought like crazy beasts, completely out of control. Tables shattered, glasses crashed, and terrified guests screamed in horror, scrambling to hide.

“Let me go!” I yelled, struggling in the guard’s grip.

But the guard held on tight. “Alpha ordered us to keep you safe,” he said coldly.

That bastard! I shook with anger and fear as Grayson pinned Zane down on a floor of shattered glass, blood dripping from his knuckles.

I couldn’t wait any longer. I bit down hard on the guard’s arm. He yelped in pain, loosening his grip, and I bolted straight toward them.

I shoved Grayson off and stood in front of Zane. “I won’t let you touch him!”

His eyes were blazing with fury. “Get out of the way, Aria. I’m killing him tonight.”

“No” I growled, trembling. “Stop this right now, Grayson. Don’t… Don’t make me hate you.”

He grabbed my wrist and yanked me close. “Hate me? You’d hate me for this fucking bastard? So I was right before–you do have feelings for him! He’s special to you, isn’t he?!”

I glared at him. “Yes, Zane is special to me. And so what? Am I not allowed to have a friend?”

“Your friend can’t be Zane Elrod!” he roared. “You came to Spike Hill Pack behind my back just to see him, didn’t you? What are you planning this time? Run away with him again?”

A sound came out of Grayson’s chest that was closer to a wolf’s roar than a human’s voice. His eyes were turning gold–the unmistakable sign his wolf was taking over.

“I should’ve killed you six months ago,” he hissed, voice low and dangerous.

A chill of horror ran down my spine. I pulled Zane back, trembling, and whispered to him urgently, “Co. You need to go now.”

“I’m not leaving without you,” Zane insisted. “I’m not letting that bastard hurt you again.”

Grayson’s gray eyes dropped to our joined hands, and something broke inside him. Pain and rage twisted his face as he lunged forward!

But before he could reach us, another powerful aura crashed through the room. Just as fierce. Just as dominating. The air instantly became heavy, making everyone around us gasp and drop to their knees.

A group of people appeared at the door. Lady Quentina strode inside, her eyes cold and sharp beneath her

veil.

“Alpha Grayson!” she shouted. “Stop it!”

Grayson had Zane pinned against the wall. His claws were only inches from Zane’s chest. He turned his head slightly toward her, his voice icy. “Frostpine Pack–this isn’t your damn business.”
