Chapter 163
Aria’s POV
Torvi didn’t even need to tell me the benefit of becoming the next female Alpha. It’s simple as hell. Being an Alpha means power–more power than just being a noble.
If you want to survive in this world, you need power. I had learnt this from everything that happened recently.
Not to mention that I was pretty damn sure Alpha Vladimir and Isla wouldn’t leave me alone. I need the authority that comes with my new status to keep myself safe.
“I see. Then what should I do to make Alpha Thalira like me?” I asked.
“Thalira Avery is a great Alpha, but she’s also the most moody person you’ll ever see. So it’s hard to say what will make her like you,” Torvi frowned. “Are you the type older women usually favor?”
I scratched my head awkwardly. Older women don’t usually like me much. They think I’m not quiet or obedient enough. The only one who’s ever really liked me was my grandma. “Not really. But I can try to be one.”
“Then let’s pick out a gift for Alpha Thalira before we head back to Frostpine Pack,” Torvi said. “We’ll go to the mall tomorrow and see if we can find something suitable.”
At the mall, I got the same respectful, eager treatment as the day before.
It’s like every salesperson already knew who I was. Everywhere I went, people bowed and greeted me with “Lady Aria.” They rushed to open doors for me and nervously explained every item I set my eyes on.
Their overly humble attitude made me really uncomfortable. I still remember how this world used to treat me like trash. It’s like I went from a homeless to a princess overnight.
“You don’t have to keep bowing to me,” I told one salesperson following us. “Seriously, you’re being too polite. It’s making me uncomfortable.”
The salesperson looked flustered and started stammering awkwardly.
Torvi spoke up from behind my back, “Lady Aria and I need a word. Give us some space.”
Immediately, all the attendants, salespeople, and bodyguards stepped back a few steps and turned away, giving us complete privacy.
“They’re just doing their jobs. And you need to get used to it,” Torvi said to me. “Remember, you’re a Lady now. So stand up straight, don’t smile back at everyone who greets you, and act a little colder.”
I frowned. “Does being noble mean you have to be cold and rude? I came from the bottom world. I know what it’s like to be treated rudely by everyone. I don’t want to be like that now just because I have a little power.”
“I know it feels wrong to you. But think about the nobles you’ve met–they all act like that. If you want to fit in, you’ll probably have to do the same.”
It’s true. I thought about the people I knew, Daliah, Isla, even Lady Quentina. They all had different personalities, but they were all used to people fawning over them. Not to even mention Grayson; he was the worst. I never saw him even look at a
commoner.
But still, just because they did it doesn’t mean I have to. My status might have changed, but I won’t let it change who I am.

“Then I just won’t fit in,” I insisted. “I’ll be a different kind of noble.

Torvi sighed, looking a little helpless. “Fine. We’ll take it step by step. Maybe you want to shop in the VIP lounge instead? You won’t have such a big audience there.”
I glanced around. Beyond the ring of soldiers, a crowd of passersby had gathered. Clearly, many had recognized me and were excitedly taking pictures with their phones.
“Alright. Let’s go to the VIP lounge,” I conceded.
Torvi called the mall manager over and told him our decision. But he looked slightly uneasy, “Well, actually… the VIP lounge is already occupied today…”
“The lounge is huge. Can’t you find a separate room for us?”
The manager stammered, “I could, but… the guest there doesn’t like to be disturbed.”
Torvi narrowed her eyes. “And our Lady doesn’t like being refused. If you don’t want us using your VIP lounge, we can take go shopping elsewhere.”
“No, that’s not what I meant!” the manager said hastily. “Please, Lady Aria, General Torvi, right this way.”
He led us to the elevator and headed up. The entire floor on the top level was reserved exclusively for VIP customers. You could relax here, try on clothes, or even have afternoon tea, all without being disturbed.
The mall manager walked ahead of us. He kept looking around as if he was afraid of being caught. As soon as we stepped into the lounge, he lowered his voice and urged me, “Your room is just ahead. Right this way, Lady Aria.”
“What the hell is your problem?” Torvi said, annoyed. “We are your guests, not fucking thieves.”
The manager wiped cold sweat from his forehead. “No, no, I know. I promise I can explain everything once we get into
room…”
“What is SHE doing here!” a sharp voice barked behind us.
I turned around and instantly understood why the manager had been so nervous.
your
Isla was standing by the door of another room. The clothes she was wearing still had tags on them. Clearly, she was shopping here today too.
She glared at me, then strode over, fuming. “What’s going on? I thought I made myself clear. I didn’t want to be disturbed this afternoon.”
The manager said nervously, “Yes, I understand. But Lady Aria…”
“Lady my ass. I’ve never seen a lady raised in a slum,” Isla took a step closer, her gaze icy. “Security, throw them out. The air here stinks of her poverty and it’s making me sick.”
elt Torvi give me a slight nudge. I knew she was hinting for me not to back down.
Of course I wouldn’t.
In fact, this was the chance for payback I’d long been waiting for.
“Is this mall seriously going to throw out the Frostpine Pack’s new Lady?” I asked loudly.
There was a deadly silence. No one moved. Not even the mall security that Isla tried to order.
I waited a few seconds, then gave Isla a mocking laugh. “See? Even your pack members know their place better than you do.”

Isla’s face twisted with rage. She gritted, “Don’t think a new title puts you above me. You have no wolf, no power. So just wait until you get to Frostpine Pack. Alpha Thalira will see what a total freak you are and have your title revoked in no time.
