Mrs. Cole’s face went blank for a second. Then her expression turned furious.
“What the hell are you doing?!” she screamed.
I crossed my arms, looking at her coolly. “I’m not wearing that damn costume. I’m not an Omega, and I won’t let anyone
humiliate me like one.”
“I already fucking told you. This order came directly from Alpha Thalira. If you want to defy her-”
“Winning her respect matters more to me than just winning her favor. I think a great Alpha like her would understand that.”
Then I looked Mrs. Cole up and down. “Besides, even if I were to change clothes, I wouldn’t do it under your orders. You’re just a butler. You don’t get to boss me around. If Alpha Thalira wants me in different clothes, she can tell me so herself.”
A sharp voice cut through the air just then:
“How dare you!”
I turned and saw a mother and daughter stepping out of the banquet hall behind me. Both were glaring at me in rage.
They were both very tall women, built similarly to Torvi. The mother had sharp eyes and a severe, harsh expression, with a downturned mouth. The daughter was pretty enough, but her eyes held a bloodthirsty wildness, like she might snap at any
moment.
As they showed up, the atmosphere shifted again. The soldiers and maids around, who had already been holding their breath, now looked like they wished they could vanish into the walls.
I didn’t need an introduction to know who these two were.
“Nice to meet you, Aunt Tamsin and Cousin Maeve,” I nodded to them.
“Shut up. I’m not your goddamn cousin. You should be kneeling in front of me, kissing my feet and call me Lady Maeve,” Maeve yelled.
I looked at her, amused. “But we are cousins, aren’t we? Or do you make your eldest aunt’s two sons kneel and kiss your feet too?”
“How dare you!” Tamsin roared. Her voice was shockingly loud, echoing through the hallway and making my ears ache. “For all we know, you might just be a fucking bastard that Quentina picked up off the streets. Your identity is questionable and you don’t belong in this packhouse! You don’t even deserve to breathe the same air as my precious daughter!”
My face turned cold. “You’ve seen my DNA report. If there were any doubt about my identity, Alpha Thalira would never have let me come here.”
“Don’t you dare use Mother against me,” Tamsin snapped.
She strode right up to me. Her tall frame cast a shadow that almost swallowed me whole. She looked down at me with utter disgust. “Now the whole world knows what an utter whore you are. You are not just an Alpha’s mistress, but a criminal who was almost made an Omega. If you had any self–respect, you’d already hang yourself right now. Don’t bring shame to Frostpine Pack.”
I looked up at her harsh features, my voice icy. “You think fighting for my rights is shameful?”

She frowned. “That’s not what I said…”
“If I were a coward and just submitted to my enemies, nothing would’ve happened to me. But I didn’t. Instead, I fought back. I took my enemy to court, even though she was a noble and I was a commoner, even though my chances were slim. And you call that shameful?”
Her expression froze.
I took a step forward, until we were almost chest to chest.
“This must be really hard for you to understand, huh?” I said with a mocking smile. “Because you’ve never fought a battle yourself. You might call yourself a fierce warrior, but you’ve fought every battle hiding behind your soldiers. All your glory comes from your title. Isn’t that right?”
Tamsin’s mouth fell open, stunned. Maeve cried out behind her, “Don’t answer that, Mother! It’s a trap!”
1 almost rolled my eyes. This mother–daughter pair might look scary, but they were so goddamn stupid.
Tamsin let out a furious roar. “You filthy little piece of shit, do you think I’m stupid?”
“Do YOU think you’re stupid?” I shot back.
Maeve snapped, “Stop playing word games! Put on that omega costume and come in, or get the hell out of here!”
I smirked. “Fine, I’ll leave. Then you can explain to Alpha Thalira why her granddaughter came all this way and then left.”
Maeve looked like she wanted to smash my skull in. I watched her carefully, ready in case she attacked.
Just then, a new voice came from down the hall:
“Don’t waste your breath on her, little sister. You’re no match for her.”
A woman in a velvet gown walked toward us from the end of the corridor, followed by at least ten maids. Some held a parasol for her, some carried her iced drink, one held her coat, and another bent over to support her hand like a human walking stick. She had the biggest entourage I’d ever seen.
Two young men, both around my age, walked beside her.
So. My new family was basically all here.
“What do you mean I’m no match for her?” Tamsin snapped. “Are you saying I’m dumber than this little bitch?”
One of the young men snorted. “Aunt Tamsin, why are you so sensitive about people implying you’re stupid? Maybe you already know the answer to that question?”
“Fuck you, Orion. You’re such an asshole,” Maeve yelled.
“Well, at least I’m not a muscle–brained idiot. So being an asshole isn’t so bad after all,” he laughed.
“Enough!” Lady Morrigan snapped, her sharp gaze sweeping over everyone. “You all know how much Mother hates you arguing behind her back. Have you no respect for her?”
But Lady Tamsin wasn’t having it. She rolled her eyes at her elder sister. “Why are you acting like you’re in charge here? No one really listens to you.”
Morrigan ignored her and turned to me, narrowing her eyes. You could tell she’d been beautiful when she was young, but

100 much early plastic surgery and fillers had left her face looking fake and ridiculous.
“You made a scene as soon as you arrived. You’ve got a lot of nerves, just like your mother,” Morrigan said coldly.
I immediately tensed up.
“Where is she?” I asked through gritted teeth.
“Oh, you mean Quentina? Right where she belongs.” Tamsin said with a sneer, a hint of glee in her voice. “When she had you with that filthy son of a bitch, Mother locked her up for over a decade. And now she’s dared to bring you back home. What do you think will happen to her this time?”
I clenched my fists, glaring at the whole group.
“I demand to see her,” I said coldly.
“Demand?!” Maeve shrieked. “Who the hell do you think you are, making demands here? My god, you’re such a selfish, arrogant, stupid bitch. Can somebody get her out of here? She makes me sick.”
