I found myself frozen, the air caught in my lungs as disbelief washed over me.

Grayson? What on earth was he doing here? Had he somehow tracked me? No, that was impossible. I had taken every precaution to ensure no one was tailing me when I slipped through the window.

Maeve’s reaction was even more pronounced than mine. Her voice pitched high, almost squeaking, as she exclaimed, “Oh my—Alpha. Grayson! I didn’t expect to see you here at this hour… Please forgive my appearance…”

“You look perfectly fine,” Grayson replied, his voice low and steady, cutting through the tension. “Do you have a moment to talk?”

Maeve sounded as if she might faint from the sheer excitement. “O-Of course! Uh… what is it about?”

“I’d like to have a word with you,” he stated matter-of-factly.

“Of course! Please come in…”

Just as she was about to usher him inside, a sudden realization struck her. Her mother and Sherry were still in the house. She definitely didn’t want Grayson to discover the secret she was harboring about torturing an Omega.

She paused, forcing a smile that looked more like a grimace. “I-I’m so sorry, Alpha Grayson. I should invite you in, but it’s a bit inconvenient at the moment… Can we perhaps talk somewhere else?”

“Sure. Let’s head to the garden,” Grayson suggested, his expression unreadable.

“Y-Yes! Just give me a moment… I need to grab my coat.”

With that, she quickly shut the door, her heart racing as she darted back into the room.

“Mother! Alpha Grayson is definitely in love with me!” she whispered, her voice quaking with excitement.

Tamsin, caught off guard, responded, “What?! Why do you think that?”

“He asked me to walk and talk in the garden! It’s past midnight. Why would a man visit a woman at this hour if he wasn’t interested? I’m convinced he’s already head over heels for me!”

Tamsin gasped in disbelief. “Really! So he only asked for you? Did he mention me at all?”

“No, just me,” Maeve replied, her tone tinged with irritation. “Mom, you’re not planning to steal Alpha Grayson from me, are you? You already have Lance. And let’s be honest, you’re much older than him.”

“Stop calling your mother old,” Tamsin playfully swatted at her daughter, a giggle escaping her lips. “But I can see why Alpha Grayson is drawn to you. My dear daughter is strong and clever—far superior to those delicate ladies. Alpha Grayson must be captivated by your strength.”

Maeve blushed, a shy giggle escaping her lips. “I don’t know about being strong and clever, but you could definitely see the sparkles in his eyes when he looked at me. Maybe after a couple of dates, he’ll make me his Luna. I just have this feeling that things will progress rapidly between us!”

“This is wonderful news for us, Maeve. If you become Grayson’s Luna, then nobody will find out about that thing,” Tamsin said, her excitement palpable.

I frowned from my hidden spot in the shadows.

This was the second time Tamsin had mentioned “that thing.” Whatever it was, it clearly held enough weight to make them both anxious.

“Go on,” Tamsin nudged Maeve, her eagerness evident. “Go change into something prettier. Keep him interested. You’d better get him to propose by the end of the week.”

“I know what to do, Mom!… Wait, what about this whore?”

Both of them turned their gazes to Sherry, who was still weakly gasping on the floor.

“Never mind, I’ve lost interest in her. I’ll call Perry to take her away,” Tamsin declared. “And with your romance with Alpha Grayson blossoming, it’s best we keep a low profile for now. Hurry, go change. Don’t keep him waiting.”

Maeve dashed off to change, and soon after, she opened the door again. I could hear her exchanging a few words with Grayson before they stepped out together.

Once they were gone, Tamsin wasted no time dragging Sherry outside, discarding her like a piece of unwanted trash, before humming a light tune as she returned to her bedroom.

At last, I was left alone.

I held my breath beneath the desk, waiting until I was certain it was safe before quietly slipping out and making my escape through the window back to my room.

Once I was safely back, my phone buzzed to life with a text from Grayson.

[You owe me for this one.]

What the hell?

I frowned and scrolled back through my messages, piecing things together.

I hadn’t sent that help message to Rhys—I had mistakenly sent it to Grayson. No wonder he had shown up!

But did I truly owe him anything? I had merely sent it to the wrong person, and I hadn’t even wanted him to come in the first place.

So, I opted not to reply and went straight to bed. What I really needed to focus on now was how to bring down Tamsin and her daughter.

The following morning, as I arrived for breakfast, I found the rest of my family already gathered around the table, teasing Maeve relentlessly.

“So, Maeve,” Orion declared loudly, a smirk plastered across his face. “Yesterday you announced to everyone that Alpha Grayson had started dating. But why did my guard see you returning to the packhouse alone and looking pretty upset?”

Maeve’s face turned a deep shade of crimson. “He did come to my door last night and invite me for a walk! We just got lost in the garden…”

“Lost? More like he ditched you. So nothing really happened, and you already declared your ‘relationship’ to the world? My god, Maeve, I’d be mortified if I were you.” He burst into laughter, the sound echoing around the dining room.

Everyone joined in, except for Maeve and Tamsin, who looked ready to explode.

Morrigan took a sip of her coffee, shaking her head with a light chuckle. “And Maeve, I know you’ve always been a bit insecure about your looks. But do you have to be so, SO desperate? I nearly fell off my chair when I heard you genuinely believed Alpha Grayson liked you. Do you even know what kind of women he usually dates? They’re all drop-dead gorgeous. Have you looked in a mirror lately? Even the maids in his house are more attractive than you.”

Fury bubbled inside Maeve as she slammed her cup on the table. Tamsin snapped, “Alpha Grayson did come to see my darling Maeve last night. We weren’t lying about it!”
