"Beta Jace!" Maria rushed toward Jace when she saw him. She has been so depressed because of the revelation and only now she came out of her bedroom. She looked haggard.
Jace stopped walking and turned around to face her.
"What is it, Maria?" He was going to take care of something, he didn’t have a lot of time to deal with her if she was going to pester him about Sofia’s punishment like Kaz did.
There was a deep crease between Jace’s brows, he was being impatient.
"Uhm... I only want to ask something." She looked uncomfortable when she mentioned this. She averted her eyes and stared at her fingers.
There you go.
Jace thought her question would be the same like Kaz, after all they were on the same page regarding Sofia a few days ago.
"I don’t know when the alpha will deliver the punishment for her, okay, so you can stop asking me about it." Jace really didn’t have time for that.
"No, no, that’s not what I want to ask!" Maria said hastily. She grabbed Jace’s sleeve to prevent him from leaving. "I only want to know... uhm, when the alpha and the luna will return?"
Jace rolled his eyes. He knew why Maria asked this question. The old woman must be very guilty toward their luna and to make it up for her, she wanted to start treating Iris nicely. Kaz had asked the same question too.
The beta wanted to rub it on her face for not treating Iris the way she deserved in the first place, but he didn’t have a heart to do it when he saw how she looked extremely remorseful. It was Maria’s luck to talk about it with Jace, if it was Hanna or Redmond, both of them would have eaten her alive with their harsh words.
"I don’t know, Maria. There are a lot of things to be taken care of out there. A year or two, maybe..."
Maria grimaced when she heard that. A year or two was so long...
"If you happened to send a message to the alpha, can you include this to the luna too?" Maria fished out something from her pocket and it was three red leaves. "It’s a good herb for body. The luna used to be very sick, right? Can you give it to her?"
Jace wanted to say that Grace was there and with how overprotective Cane was with his mate, there was no way he would let anything bad happened to her. More so, Jace was sure Iris was in her best condition right now.
However, he still accepted it.
"Okay. Anything else?" Jace took the three leaves. He was not sure what were they, but Grace must be able to tell.
"No. No." Maria shook her head. "Only tell them to take a good care of themselves. I pray for them."
Maria still felt a little bit awkward to wish a good thing for Iris alone, thus she generalized her pray.
Jace nodded and then left, but Maria didn’t feel better. She felt devastated because she couldn’t make up for her mistake when the person that she had been wronged was not even there.
This was a gruesome feeling.
Meanwhile, in the Diandem pack, the rumor about Sofia spread like wildfire.
"That slut was not pregnant with the alpha’s child!"
"We shouldn’t have believed it when she appeared and claimed herself to be pregnant with alpha Cane’s firstborn!"
"Kaz and Maria made it seem real!"
"I can’t believe it we have been deceived all this time!"
"I feel so bad to even be happy for the alpha when he didn’t even want to claim the baby as his in the first place, until it was proven!"
The problem was; because the capital city had been attacked by monster lately and it was further proven that the magical device the merchant had built didn’t work, the king would punish the merchant and Cane was summoned because Lou was currently working for him.
The king wanted to know if there was a conspiration behind it, especially when the previous king died in the Howling Wolf pack. The investigation about it would be held.
"This is ridiculous!" Ethan growled. He slammed his hand against the table out of anger. "That brain damaged king accused us of what? Conspired with Lou and killed the previous king?! While the real culprit is them!"
Half a year ago, Cane was summoned to the palace because Ethan attacked Alan, who was the crown prince at that time, but now the alpha was summoned again because Lou couldn’t do his job right.
"Like father like son. Why would they like to summon you to come to the palace?" Ethan grumbled.
Currently, the two of them were in the study room and Cane had been very quiet ever since he received the message, the gamma wished Iris was there, so she could ask him what was going on inside of that brilliant head of his alpha and what kind of plot he was currently brewing now.
"Cane, what are you going to do with this?" This must be the third time for Ethan to ask the same question. "My dearest and lovely alpha, at least tell me what are you going to do!"
Yes, Cane explained a little bit more to him lately, but it didn’t mean there would be time when he fell back to his old habit.
Cane finally gave the gamma his attention, but the corner of his lips curled in disgust with the way Ethan addressed him.
"Where are you going now?" Ethan was dumbstruck when Cane was about to leave the room without giving him any explanation. He didn’t even say a word to him, as he left him in his dissatisfaction. "Ugh! Sometime I hope this is the lycan! At least, I know what he is going to do!"
If it was left to Lu, the lycan would surely raise a war with the royal and annihilate all of them.
Meanwhile, the alpha went to his bedroom to look for his mate. He thought, he wouldn’t find her there, since she loved to roam around and currently it became a habit of her to rebel against him.
But, Cane found his sweet mate was reading near the window, her brows creased and her eyes fixed on the book she was reading. She looked very serious, until she didn’t realize Cane approached her and looked over her shoulder to see what she was reading.
"Do you want to try that position?"
