Brittany's heart was as soft as a marshmallow.
"Ms. Lynette, dinner is ready," the butler reminded, with just the right touch of formality.
Holding Daniel's hand, Brittany walked to the dining room, with Eltham trailing behind them.
"I found out what he likes to eat. Dinner is his favorite," she mentioned, hoping to lighten the mood.
Daniel rushed to pull a chair out for Brittany, casting an annoyed glance at Eltham. "It's not needed!"
In his mind, anyone trying to take his mom away was the villain.
Brittany was surprised that Eltham had gone to the lengths of finding out Daniel's preferences. He really was a master of playing his cards right, even when it came to a child.
Eltham seated himself, unfazed. "Sooner or later, your mom and I are going to get married. You might as well start calling me 'Dad.'"
Daniel clenched his teeth in anger. "That's nonsense!"
His mom would never marry someone like him!
Eltham seemed determined to make Daniel face reality. He looked at Brittany, "Bri, what do you say?"
Brittany frowned, "Eltham, he's just a kid."
Eltham shrugged, letting the topic drop for now.
Daniel sat down, puffing up like a little rooster, worrying about his mom but not wanting to show any weakness in front of Eltham.
He believed in his mom!
He wouldn't fall for Eltham's tricks!
Throughout dinner, Daniel's attention was all on Brittany, barely touching his food, his concern for his mom evident.
Brittany enjoyed her son's attention, answering all his concerns with a smile.
"Don't worry about me, honey. I'm fine," she reassured him.
After dinner, the butler was tasked with taking Daniel back to the Lynette family estate.
Brittany, unable to hide her reluctance to let him go, escorted him to the car. Despite being pregnant, she lifted him into the back seat. "Daniel, be a good boy and listen to your grandpa, okay? Eat well."
Daniel, mature beyond his years, suddenly looked very much the child he was, his eyes welling up. "Are you really going to marry that bad man?"
He didn't like Eltham at all.
Eltham stayed back, but the butler was present.
"He's only six. It's not good for him to know about these things now," Brittany exhaled deeply.
"Bri, we're going to live together eventually." Eltham was persistent. "Or is it that you're still thinking about Isaac?"
Brittany's lips tightened. "You should know I don't like you."
Eltham was aware, but it didn't matter to him.
"Bri, don't forget, I still have—"
Before he could finish, Brittany's phone rang urgently.
It was Yuri.
Taking a deep breath, she answered, "Hello, Dad."
"Bri, photos of you and Isaac on a date have been leaked. Now, there's speculation about the baby not being Eltham's—"
Brittany's heart sank. "How could this happen?"
"Stay home tomorrow, rest. Avoid the reporters."
Yuri was beyond frustrated. Just as Brittany had started to settle down, the leaked photos of her and Isaac had thrown everything into chaos again. Now, the media was having a field day.
