The Broken-hearted She And The Icy He (Lily and John) novel Chapter 646

Chapter 646: A Confusing Dawn

James slowly became aware that something was terribly wrong. The atmosphere in the room felt heavy, charged with an unfamiliar, intimate scent that made his stomach churn. Turning his head, he caught sight of torn fabric and delicate women’s undergarments scattered across the floor, a silent testament to the night’s events.

Could it truly be that last night wasn’t just a figment of his alcohol-fueled imagination?

He recalled the horrifying image of a lifeless body, devoured by a shark—Lily’s body. He had witnessed it with his own eyes. Lily was gone, never to return.

The woman beside him, however, was unmistakably not Lily.

The realization hit him with crushing force: he had been with another woman, someone who clearly had her own motives, while Lily’s memory was still fresh and raw. The shame was suffocating. He wished he could disappear, wished he could erase what had happened.

Suddenly, he felt the softness of a body pressed closely against his own. This was the woman he had kissed, touched, and held through the night. A wave of overwhelming self-loathing surged through him.

He had vowed to love only Lily, to remain faithful to her for his entire life. Who could have imagined that less than a month after her tragic death, he would be intimate with someone else? The thought was unbearable.

Feeling disgusted with himself, James reached for the blankets and, without a shred of warmth, pushed the woman away from the bed.

“Stay away from me! Don’t ever show your face here again! Get out!” he barked coldly.

Lily, who had been peacefully nestled in his arms moments before, was suddenly unceremoniously thrown onto the floor. The thick blankets cushioned her fall, sparing her any pain, but the shock left her startled and breathless.

Then came his harsh, emotionless voice, cutting through the silence like a blade.

“I’ll say it again: leave! I won’t take responsibility for you. If you dare to come back or try to bother me, there will be consequences.”

His icy rejection stung deeply. Lily felt an overwhelming sense of injustice.

When she had been Mergan’s prisoner, she had feared she would never see James again. Now, after finally being reunited, she was met with cold dismissal—especially after witnessing him with another pregnant woman. Naturally, her fury flared.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. With tears welling up, her voice cracked as she snapped, “You don’t have to throw me out! I’ll get dressed and leave on my own!”

James’s face froze in place. Time seemed to slow, the air thick with tension.

Lily was dead. How could he be hearing her voice?

Was he missing her so deeply that his mind was playing tricks on him? Or was he still trapped in some lingering dream?

In slow, deliberate motion, James raised his hand and pinched himself hard.

The sharp sting confirmed it—he wasn’t dreaming.

Then, Lily’s indignant voice pierced the room again. “And I don’t need you to ‘take responsibility’! I’ll marry someone else, and your children can call another man ‘Dad’!”

James’s eyes snapped wide open.
