**TITLE: My Wife 676**
**Chapter 676: The Truth Revealed**
He pressed a hand against his chest, his voice thick with stubbornness. “He fooled you!”
This time, Adeline didn’t respond right away. She sank onto the edge of the bed, her eyes rimmed with red, as if the weight of her thoughts had rendered her temporarily speechless. Finally, in a tone barely above a whisper, she confessed, “He did fool me.”
The memory of that night lingered in her mind, a bittersweet echo of intimacy and promises made in the heat of passion. He had vowed to take responsibility, to be there for her, but those words now felt like hollow sweet nothings, spoken without thought. The truth was stark and painful: he had another woman, one he had chosen to build a life with, and now, she was pregnant.
Yet, Adeline couldn’t bring herself to blame him. He hadn’t coerced her; in fact, she had been the one pursuing him that night. Just yesterday, he had saved her life, proving himself to be a good man in a moment of crisis. How could she possibly harbor resentment toward him?
Her voice softened, drifting like a whisper in the wind. “But in my heart, he is still a very good person. I will never blame him.”
Victor felt a sharp pang of frustration twist in his gut. She still insisted on seeing the best in him, despite everything. It was infuriating. He was overcome with a sense of helplessness, knowing that no matter what he said, she was utterly blinded by that scoundrel. Nothing he could utter would penetrate the fog of her affection for him.
After a prolonged silence, he finally managed to say, “If he ever hurts you, you can come to me.”
“You are Lily’s friend. I won’t stand by if you’re being hurt,” he added, his voice firm yet laced with concern.
“Thank you,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
As she spoke, her eyes drifted to a neatly folded set of brand-new women’s clothes resting on the bedside table. She instinctively clutched the edge of the blanket, feeling a sudden rush of vulnerability. “Victor, can you please step out? I need to get dressed.”
“Sure,” he murmured, turning away to give her some privacy.
“Once you’re dressed, I’ll take you home. Norman will be sentenced to at least ten years. I won’t let him get parole, so you don’t need to worry about him hurting you again,” he assured her, hoping to ease her mind.
With that, he didn’t linger any longer. He exited the master bedroom, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He had wanted Adeline to stay for breakfast, to share a moment of normalcy, but she insisted on leaving as soon as she was dressed, refusing his offer to drive her. He could only walk her to the villa gate, feeling a sense of loss wash over him.
