Her eyes were usually cool and seldom smiled, giving her a sense of detachment. Now, her eyes curved into crescents, making her look dazzling, like a blooming, exquisite peony–a woman of peerless beauty.
Victor gazed at her, mesmerized.
He thought her smile was stunning, gentle yet sweet, warming him to the core. But the thought that she had a senior she deeply loved and couldn’t let go of brought a wave of bitterness.
He knew it would be difficult to make her give up years of devotion to that scumbag, but he wanted to fight for her heart.
He was about to say something when her sweet, laughing voice reached him. “The person I love in secret is you!”
Victor was completely stunned.
The person she loves in secret… is me?
Yesterday, she had cried that her senior was marrying someone else. And today, he himself had almost married Marilyn…
The more Victor thought about it, the more he realized he was the senior she was talking about.
But she was so wonderful. Why would she secretly love him for so many years? What was so special about him that she would devote her secret affections to him?
In a daze, he heard her voice again. “I’ve liked you since my freshman year.”
But at the time, he was a senior and rarely came to campus. Even when he did, he mostly stayed in the lab. It was difficult for her to even run into him. Her happiest day during her four years of college was when he gave his commencement speech as an outstanding graduate.
Because on that day, she could look at him freely… for nearly ten minutes.
In the few years since graduation, he had not only started his own tech company but had also become an influential figure in the field of scientific research. Their lives had become worlds apart. She no longer even had the chance to see him from a distance.
But he had captivated her youth. Even if they had no further connection, it would be difficult for her to love anyone else.
“I secretly took several pictures of you when you gave your commencement speech as the outstanding graduate.”

With that, she pulled up the photos she had carefully treasured for years on her phone.
Victor looked down and saw his younger self, holding his speech, standing proudly on the stage.
She thought of the hidden sweetness, the secret joy she felt when she took a picture with him. After showing him a few photos, she quickly tried to pull her phone back.
He swiped down and saw that photo.
The picture was a selfie she had taken. She stood with her back to the stage, capturing her face and him in the background. Because of the angle, it looked as if they were standing close, but in reality, there were many students between them.
Looking at the photo of them in the same frame, Victor’s heart was filled with a mix of warmth and pain. She quietly loved me for all those years.
He had been so focused on starting his business and research. Why hadn’t he ever turned around and looked at her?
He resolved to treat her better from now on, to make up tenfold for her bitterness, anxiety, and insecurity all those years. He wasn’t good at sweet talk. He could only pull her into a tight, tight embrace and say hoarsely, “I know secret love is painful. You must have felt so much pain… Adeline, let me secretly love you now.”
Adeline didn’t think it was painful. Secret love could be nerve–wracking, but sometimes, a fleeting glance from the person you loved could bring days of quiet joy. Besides, many people’s secret affections never amounted to anything. Her secret love had found a response. She was incredibly lucky compared to many others.
She smiled brightly and hugged him back. “Now we’re openly in love and chasing each other. That’s not a secret anymore!”
Openly in love and chasing each other…
A flush spread across Victor’s ears, mirroring the sunset. His ears were burning red. He gazed deeply at her lips, his throat moving. He finally said hoarsely, “Yes, we’re openly in love and chasing each other. Adeline, let’s start dating!”
Victor wanted more than just to date Adeline; he wanted to marry her and give her a magnificent wedding. But he was afraid that if he mentioned marriage right after they confessed their feelings, she would think he was moving too fast and would frighten her away, so he held back.
Adeline gently touched her abdomen and smiled brightly and candidly. “Yes, let’s date!”
