"Camille, how can you say that? She has a good mother who's ambitious. Even if Sadie wasn't born a Russell, she can still rise in the world."
The guests were quite audacious. After all, they were all from more powerful families than the Russells.
Rita had not expected things to escalate to this extent.
Camille fell silent.
"Alright, how long do we have to keep up this farce? Please, go home, all of you," said Rita.
Vince remained silent with a grim expression while Rita attended to the remaining guests. Karen, on the other hand, was too ashamed to lift her head. Even her carefully prepared tears had dried on her face.
Having shared a bed with Vince for so many years, she knew that the thing he cared about the most in the world was his reputation.
When Vince first moved Karen and Sadie, he was still in his honeymoon phase, unable to think clearly. However, after years had passed, he finally came to his senses. He knew that many people in his circle sarcastically called him a 'savior' for marrying Karen.
Outwardly, he always pretended not to care. Deep down, however, he cared very much indeed.
Thus, no matter how affable he tried to appear, he could not help but feel a surge of anger inside when someone exposed him like this in front of everyone in a dinner party he hosted in his own home.
It was only then the realization hit Vince of how stupid he was to let Karen do whatever she wanted with the guest. He should have been firmer and let the guests go. He truly regretted his decision.
"Rita, you too. Even if you hold grudges toward Karen, you shouldn't have caused a scene. You should know very well that your stepmom is someone who can't control her temper. Look at how ugly things have become now. The guests will probably be laughing about us tomorrow!"
Rita was not even surprised at Vince's reproach. She scoffed and said, "Dad, if your wife can't stand any sort of injustice, then what makes you think I can? I've already said I didn't take the necklace, and if you don't believe me, fine. I have work tomorrow, so I'm not going to stay here and continue on with this farce!"
"How dare you speak to me like that? Is this really the attitude you should have toward your father?"

The readers' comments on the novel: The Day I Kissed An Older Man
This book is a good book, but it’s too short. I hope it has a part two👍🏾...
This book is getting boring now. I loved Jeremy, Corinne, Sonny and Lucas. The story needs to end. or bring back more of Jeremy, etc....
I haven't skipped any chapter at all. Though the story is good, it keeps going back to base one. I think this has no ending at all and somehow after reading more than 2500 chapters it's kinda tiring already. They have drained all the thrills....
Great writing! I almost cried when Helen hit Melody! So sad! 😭 can’t wait to see how the relationship with her and Lucas develops though. So tired of the repetitive problems with different people....
Yikes my body tenses so much, my moods change as the scenes change. It leaves me wanting to continue reading....
my heart breaks for melody, so many ups and downs, i shed a few tears when lucas walked by melody carrying thalia, and melody stayed quiet while watching them leave. i find myself getting into character as if im one. i dont remember ever feeling like that in any other books. im thankful the 10 chapters/day. waiting for the next 10...
We have updated progress from 7 chapters/day to 10 chapters/day.<3...
i love grandma Beatrice, there needs to me more people like her in the world straight forward and to the point, no beating around the bush and worrying about offending anyone, why pretend to be someone your not....
looking forward to more chapters, The same thing is happening to Melody as what happened to Luna, if Luna was back maybe she would set Lucas straight, can't wait to see how Lucas handles the situations that will arrive. Poor Melody....
ya Lucas pay more attention to Melody lets see what happens waiting for more chapters thanks...
