"So even the great Mister Sherman has moments when he doesn't feel like working," teased Rita, to which Sherman responded with a smile.
"I'm human, not a machine. It's only natural that I have those moments."
"And how do you usually deal with such negative emotions?" Rita asked, expecting a typical response. However, Sherman's answer took her by surprise.
"I just skip work altogether. As the boss, I still have that privilege."
Rita could not help but laugh. "Mister Sherman, you really have a sense of humor."
After taking a sip of his coffee, Sherman asked, "So, Miss Rita, why did you ask me out today? Is it still about that piece of land?"
Rita shook her head firmly. "It has nothing to do with that. But if you're willing to chat, I'd be happy to. Actually, it's—"
Rita bit her lip, unsure of how to broach the subject. She realized she had been too impulsive, rushing to Sherman and asking why he had helped her. It might make her seem presumptuous; perhaps Sherman had simply acted out of a sense of justice.
"This doesn't seem like your usual self," said Sherman.
Rita raised her head, her shimmering eyes fixed on him. "Then tell me, what do you think my usual self is?"
"Well...you're very straightforward. You're not the type to hesitate to say what's on your mind," Sherman replied. "Honestly, with my stature, even those who are on par with me in terms of wealth rarely speak so candidly in front of me. That's why I especially appreciate the people who speak the truth in front of me."
Rita blushed, her eyes flickering with embarrassment. Still, she insisted on asking the question. "I want to know why you helped me."
Both fell silent, an ambiguous atmosphere enveloping them.
"There's no specific reason. I've told you I like your personality, and I don't want to see you being slandered by such despicable colleagues. Maybe it's because I had nothing else to do, so I decided to help you with this little trouble. Miss Rita, you really don't need to take it to heart," said Sherman with a faint smile.
Rita quickly hid the disappointment in her eyes.
"Is that so? So can I take it as you would help anyone just like you helped me?"

The readers' comments on the novel: The Day I Kissed An Older Man
This book is a good book, but it’s too short. I hope it has a part two👍🏾...
This book is getting boring now. I loved Jeremy, Corinne, Sonny and Lucas. The story needs to end. or bring back more of Jeremy, etc....
I haven't skipped any chapter at all. Though the story is good, it keeps going back to base one. I think this has no ending at all and somehow after reading more than 2500 chapters it's kinda tiring already. They have drained all the thrills....
Great writing! I almost cried when Helen hit Melody! So sad! 😭 can’t wait to see how the relationship with her and Lucas develops though. So tired of the repetitive problems with different people....
Yikes my body tenses so much, my moods change as the scenes change. It leaves me wanting to continue reading....
my heart breaks for melody, so many ups and downs, i shed a few tears when lucas walked by melody carrying thalia, and melody stayed quiet while watching them leave. i find myself getting into character as if im one. i dont remember ever feeling like that in any other books. im thankful the 10 chapters/day. waiting for the next 10...
We have updated progress from 7 chapters/day to 10 chapters/day.<3...
i love grandma Beatrice, there needs to me more people like her in the world straight forward and to the point, no beating around the bush and worrying about offending anyone, why pretend to be someone your not....
looking forward to more chapters, The same thing is happening to Melody as what happened to Luna, if Luna was back maybe she would set Lucas straight, can't wait to see how Lucas handles the situations that will arrive. Poor Melody....
ya Lucas pay more attention to Melody lets see what happens waiting for more chapters thanks...
