"We must proceed cautiously with our plans instead of expecting an overnight success!"
Karen merely nodded. "Just trust me. Alright, don't stay in my room too long, lest they really think I'm unwell. I'm sure that rat would be very happy then. You should go back to your room now. I'll update you if anything comes up."
Despite her concerns, Sadie was thus dismissed from her mother's room. She wanted to say more but found Rita leaning against the railing with her arms crossed and looking at her with great interest.
"Tsk tsk tsk. So there are things your mother doesn't want to tell you after all! But then again, you're just a child, so what help could you possibly be to her? If I were her, I wouldn't want to tell you either."
"Just what are you trying to say?" Sadie hated Rita's condescending attitude. She had much more than Rita, yet Rita always acted like she had everything. She was quite the performer.
"It's exactly what you think it means. Truth is a bitter pill to swallow, huh? If I were you, I'd dig deeper. What if something you can't control happens in the future?"
Sadie scoffed. "When did the great Miss Rita Russell learn to speak in such a roundabout way? Or perhaps those are just empty threats, and you're just trying to throw me off? After all, your mother is long dead, so it's only natural that you'll miss spending time with her."
Rita lowered her head and chuckled. "Sadie, don't you have anything to say except for bringing up my mother? But then again, even if you do, I still don't think you have more than I do. What my mother gave me is enough for me to live a lifetime."
Rita's satisfied smile when mentioning her mother was not just for show, making Sadie's expression even more unpleasant.
…
Contrary to Rita's expectations, Sadie did not immediately confront Karen. She knew that the more impatient she appeared, the less likely Karen would reveal the man's identity.
However, she could not figure out who Esmond Parr was and what kind of relationship he had with her mother to make her defend him so fiercely.
'Is he Mom's former lover?' she wondered.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Day I Kissed An Older Man
This book is a good book, but it’s too short. I hope it has a part two👍🏾...
This book is getting boring now. I loved Jeremy, Corinne, Sonny and Lucas. The story needs to end. or bring back more of Jeremy, etc....
I haven't skipped any chapter at all. Though the story is good, it keeps going back to base one. I think this has no ending at all and somehow after reading more than 2500 chapters it's kinda tiring already. They have drained all the thrills....
Great writing! I almost cried when Helen hit Melody! So sad! 😭 can’t wait to see how the relationship with her and Lucas develops though. So tired of the repetitive problems with different people....
Yikes my body tenses so much, my moods change as the scenes change. It leaves me wanting to continue reading....
my heart breaks for melody, so many ups and downs, i shed a few tears when lucas walked by melody carrying thalia, and melody stayed quiet while watching them leave. i find myself getting into character as if im one. i dont remember ever feeling like that in any other books. im thankful the 10 chapters/day. waiting for the next 10...
We have updated progress from 7 chapters/day to 10 chapters/day.<3...
i love grandma Beatrice, there needs to me more people like her in the world straight forward and to the point, no beating around the bush and worrying about offending anyone, why pretend to be someone your not....
looking forward to more chapters, The same thing is happening to Melody as what happened to Luna, if Luna was back maybe she would set Lucas straight, can't wait to see how Lucas handles the situations that will arrive. Poor Melody....
ya Lucas pay more attention to Melody lets see what happens waiting for more chapters thanks...
