The Don's Favorite lover Vanished (by Melissa Z) novel Chapter 8

**The Story of a Girl Who Loved a Man Made Entirely of Secrets**

The gunfire abruptly ceased, leaving an eerie silence in its wake. Emergency lights flickered to life, casting a harsh glow over the devastation that lay scattered across the hall. The remnants of chaos were stark against the dimly lit backdrop, shadows dancing on the walls like ghosts of the past.

Vincenzo stood resolutely in the heart of the ruined space, a solitary figure amidst the wreckage. His presence was commanding, yet a tension crackled in the air, thick enough to slice through with a knife.

Before him loomed a man clad in a Russian military-style coat—Dimitri Petrov, Katerina’s uncle. His imposing stature and cold demeanor radiated an aura of authority that was impossible to ignore.

“I require an explanation,” Dimitri’s voice sliced through the silence, chilling the atmosphere further. “My niece was nearly killed. On your territory.” The accusation hung heavily between them, a weight that demanded accountability.

Vincenzo’s response was measured, yet filled with an undercurrent of tension. “The Torrino family will pay,” he stated, his tone firm but lacking the fervor of desperation.

Dimitri’s eyes narrowed, his gaze drifting past Vincenzo until it landed on me, hidden behind a crumbling pillar. “That one,” he said, his tone shifting to something darker, more menacing. “Your loose end.”

He stepped closer to Vincenzo, the air thickening with the unspoken threat that lingered in the space between them. “A woman who forces a man to ‘choose’ is a liability. My niece will not start her new life with liabilities.” His words dripped with disdain, as if he were discussing a mere object rather than a person.

Vincenzo remained silent, the weight of Dimitri’s words pressing down on him like a heavy shroud.

“Our alliance requires the elimination of all internal liabilities,” Dimitri continued, his voice cold and unyielding as he delivered his ultimatum. “This woman knows too many of your secrets. Deal with her before the wedding. Or the deal is off.” With that, Dimitri turned on his heel, leaving Vincenzo to grapple with the implications of his words.

Alone in the aftermath, Vincenzo stood motionless for a moment, the shadows of the hall closing in around him. Then, with a slow and deliberate movement, he turned his gaze towards me, his eyes locking onto mine across the debris. The struggle I once saw in him had vanished, replaced by the chilling clarity of a man who had made up his mind.

He raised his radio, his voice low but carrying an unmistakable weight. “Marco.” The name echoed in the silence, reverberating like a death knell. “Activate the ‘cleanup protocol.’ Target: Chiara Rossi.”

A laugh escaped my lips, bitter and defiant. I wasn’t defeated by a woman; I was bested by his relentless ambition, his ruthless desire for power.

With a surge of adrenaline, I dragged my battered body toward a side door, desperate to escape the fate that Vincenzo had just sealed for me.

Outside, Katerina awaited me in the rose garden, the moonlight illuminating her victorious smile. “You heard him,” she stated, her tone almost gleeful. “Don’t blame Vincenzo. For his future, you have to disappear.”
