Reese shot Lyla a cold look, barely able to hide her disbelief. Was Lyla really begging for mercy now? After leaking classified information? Reese wasn’t the one who got to decide if Lyla deserved forgiveness—not that it mattered.
Hank, seeing that Reese wasn’t backing down, lost patience fast. “Reese, don’t take it too far. Was it you who set Sofia up for the leak?”
Reese caught the fire in Hank’s eyes and let a mocking smile slip. Hank always talked a big game about how much he hated her for their mother’s death, acting like he was the world’s most devoted son. Yet here he was, siding with the family’s illegitimate daughter at every turn.
Did he seriously not remember that Sofia’s mom—the other woman—was the one who tore their family apart and destroyed his own mother’s happiness?
“I framed her?” Reese’s voice was flat. “Alright, then. Tell me. How exactly did I do it? What’s so special about her that I’d bother?”
Hank shot back, “You’re jealous. You’re terrified she’ll get close to Sebastian and ruin your marriage. You’d even use your own kid to set her up if it keeps her out of your way.
“And after I told the Ratcliff family about it, you started hating her even more, so you made this whole thing up!
“Reese, do you remember Mom’s shares in the Meyer family? I decide where those go. If you keep this up, I’ll give every last share to Sofia instead, just to spite you.”
That landed hard. Sofia’s eyes went dark—she never thought Hank would go that far, actually using their mother’s inheritance as a threat. For a second, she wondered which one of them was really his sister.
Reese couldn’t help it; she laughed, bitter and sharp. “Wow, Hank. You really are clueless.
“As for the shares, Mom left a will. What’s mine is mine, and I don’t want a single cent of yours.
“But if you think you can burn through my mom’s money on her, Hank, you’d better believe me when I say I’ll make sure you get nothing.”
Then she jabbed a finger at Sofia, who was still cowering behind Hank.
Pressing her fingers to her tired eyes, Reese’s voice was steely. “Whether Sofia was involved in the leak isn’t up to you or me. That’s for the National Security Bureau to figure out.
“Good thing I’d already ended the pregnancy, or there would’ve been two deaths that day.
“Sofia, are you really going to stand there and say you didn’t do any of that?”

Meanwhile, on the other side of town at Ratcliff Global Headquarters, Sebastian was working when his assistant burst in, looking nervous. “Mr. Ratcliff, we just got a message from our staff at BlackOak. Hank brought Sofia to the R&D department. They’re cornering Reese right now.”
Sebastian went still, his eyes narrowing. He remembered all too well the stunts Hank had pulled for Sofia before. What kind of mess were they causing this time?
He didn’t hesitate. He stood up, grabbed his jacket, and on instinct, snatched the USB drive from his drawer, which had the video of Sofia shoving Reese.
“Get the car ready. We’re going to BlackOak.”
